I have a 22' class c that is currently winterized. My question is can I leave cold Utah in January with water in fresh water tank with hot water tank bypassed,(running cab heat) and drive to warm Arizona, and be safe from damaging plumbing while in freezing weather?

I don't flush the water lines but do open all the valves and drive around for a few miles to assist their draining completely. I then put RV antifreeze in the sink and shower traps along with half a gallon in the black and gray tanks. This has worked fine for the last 7 years and the coach is basically ready to roll 24/7. Just add water to the freshwater tank and roll out.

Open your drain valves and blow any water out using compressed air. Hook an air hose into your water poont that opens to the outside. About 15 PSI will blow the water out slick as a whistle.

"Warm Arizona" is a relative term... and not particularly accurate. From December through March just about anywhere in Arizona can experience severe {think mid twenties to mid teens}, over night. Keep in mind this is at the lower altitudes. The average elevation in the state of Arizona is north of 4,000' and if that is where you are the numbers get smaller with every foot of elevation gained.

Full winterization of your RV may not be essential in AZ but be prepared to take some preventative steps to avoid damage. We live at 3,400' a little north of Tucson and have seen 14 degrees, 4" of snow a couple of times a winter is not unusual and low temps in the 20's far from rare.

Your freshwater is probably not at risk - but if you use it to flush the toilet, your lower black/gray tank valves could freeze. When we'd leave Michigan in January, we'd flush the toilet with a splash of antifreeze; and would drink bottled water. If any water went down the sink drain, we'd follow it with a splash of antifreeze. Obviously we'd stay in campgrounds and use their showers and bathrooms as much as possible. Never had any problems.

Also - I cut Reflectix insulation to fit all the windows - made a HUGE difference in how warm the RV stayed at night. Usually we'd use an electric heater for warmth, and with the Reflectix and some foam stuffed in the overhead vents, the heater did most of the work.

Forgot to mention, water tank is under dinette directly behind drivers seat. Will be full of propane when I leave, as well as maybe an extra 5gal tank of propane and an electric heater. About a 6 or 7 hour drive to warmer weather. Thanks all for help.

With no hint what your coach is, the best I can say is that the vast majority of coaches are built with the potable water contained in the heated interior.

So, yes, you should be able to put on potable and drive just be sure that you have propane for heat if you get stopped by the weather.

We used to do a lot of winter travel as that was the only time DW could get loose.

Depends on how fast you expect to drive. I would not put fresh water in until I got ready to de-winterize. Carry a few gallon bottles of water inside. What is it, about two days travel?? If Fresh water tank is inside as it is on many Cs, If you can stay in it, water will be OK.
