Saw on dragraceresults.com where a beat up old 74 Ford F150 towing a 26ft camper lost the trailer causing a toter home pulling a race car trailer to hit it. Trailer had a 2 5/16 hitch and truck had a 2' ball and it dis connected. Could have been bad but no one was hurt. If you look on the site its under Chris needs help

In addition to checking ball size it’s a good idea to periodically check the nut that adjusts the hitch plate that closes under the ball and locks the vehicle and trailer together. I had the adjusting nut back off a trailer and came unhitched years ago.....thank goodness for safety chains

I always checked to insure they matched when I was towing.> I lost a total of ZERO trailers due to hitch/ball disengagement. IN fact the only trailer I ever "LOST" (note the quotes) was so wore out I towed it to ther scarp yard and parked it on the scale and got paid.. Technically not a loss since I got paid.

I did have a hitch break once. but still did not lose the trailer.. enough of the hitch. and the safety chains held. the new hitch was a size larger.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.
2005 Damon Intruder 377 Alas declared a total loss
after a semi "nicked" it. Still have the radios

They probably figured I been towing like that for yrs , it's ok .

Actually attaching a 2 5/16" trailer on a 2" ball is an easy mistake
especially to an inexperianced person .
You just got to be careful and check that stuff .
A lot of people probably never heard on a 2 5/16" ball .
