Normally follow the Golden Rule (grade school) when camping
and 99% of the time I'm covered... this one has me flummoxed..

I own a perfect self contained electric smoker... (soaked chips
of Hickory/Apple/Mesquite etc.).... was wondering if it would be
inappropriate to take with me to the next State Park camp outing
and smoke up some tri-tip / shoulder / bird etc. . Would hate to
p.o. the neighbors.... I only ask as last week one of the neighbor
couples sat outside their rig and both smoked slow burn big ol'
fat cigar turds...and we were downrange. Dang things lasted over
an hour then lingered. I've smelled better feces. Hence ,
rethinking the smoker. any thoughts ?

Smoke time varies with load/species/cut ... could run up to 6-8
hours.

Just got back from a week of camping, brought along my electric bullet smoker, Wednesday we smoked four racks of ribs for six hours, I used Apple and Pecan. Had a light steady smoke for about five hours, then I wrapped them in foil for the last hour without smoke.
Had a handful of campers walk by and comment how good it smelled and started talking bbq/smoking. Met some really nice folks!!
Wind was variable all day from 10-25 mph
So Everyone in the camp ground got a whiff!!
Matter of fact, the care taker actually stopped by and asked what we were cooking because he could smell it and had to track it down!!!
I gave him a sample and he was delighted!!!
SO,, moral of the story,,,,,,,,,,, SMOKE IT!!! If some one has an issue than CAMP COOKING is not for them!!!! Get a new hobby!!!
"Smoke 'em if ya got 'em"!!!!

I started burning some apple, cherry and pecan about 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning. I hope it didn't wake the neighbors.

Yeah, hearing the trailer door 48 times a day when they went might have been annoying. LOL

Why keep the beer in a cooler outside? You know the old saying "Drink a beer...pee a six-pack!" :B The door is slamming because they have to go in to use the facilities! Might as well pick up a cold one out of the refrigerator while you're in there! :S

I don't worry too much about what my neighbors are doing when I'm camping, really don't worry too much about what they do or don't do when I'm at home. Kids are going to make noise, dogs are going to bark, fires are going to smoke, might not like the music someone is playing, someone may be up later than I or get up earlier and make some noise. I tend to agree with whoever said if you can't tolerate any of these things at a campground you'd better buy some land and camp there by yourself.

fla-gypsy, the comment just before yours was about someone having terrible physical reaction to smoke. Just pointing out that it might have been misinterpruted.

I was responding to the person that started the thread and decided to throw insults around. When people make ass/umptions that are incorrect, then they are wrong! People with smoke allergies really need to find a new pastime or camp where fires are not allowed but I would never wish someone with an illness any harm but the buffoon that wants to insult others minding their own business is the real ASS!

Sorry Bumpy but when someone takes an out of bounds shot at me I will not let it pass. We have way to many people who think they have to be "offended" by everything someone else does that is none of their business in a CG. If I break some rule then I expect to be challenged on it but when I sit down at MY campsite and fire up my favorite cigar of the day it is not anybody elses business. There are certainly things that others do that I don't like but thats their business and I stay out of it.

Ummmmm, can I get a AMEN!! "My rights have been infringed on" is getting old too, to me!!

fla-gyp you're answer is uncalled for and you deserve everything you wish on someone else. Raindove you seem like a well mannered person so if I smoke a Pork Butt, and I am from Oklahoma wehre we know how to smoke meat, you are invited to my table.

It's a freakin CG, time for some people to grow up and quit worrying about what everyone else is doing and looking for something to be "offended" over. Stay in your site and leave others alone, that's my new mantra. I wish everyone else would do the same!

I guess you thought the OP's original statement was OK, huh (see below)?

Its cooking smoke as stated earlier,, by all means fire it up,, If you are down wind and don't like it..MOVE!! Or find another hobby in a clean room!!
Who in there right mind would complain???
Let me see,, you paid for your spot just like every one else,, Smoke dog rockets, happy logs, what ever,,,, I camped next to a couple that sat out and drank a 48 pack of beer and smoked a pack and a half of cigarettes EVERY DAY!!!
I didn't complain,, If it bothered me badly enough I would have asked for a different spot,,, It's Camping!! Enjoy!!!

a silly comparison IMHO. their swigging beer did not impose on you in any way, unless they became drunk and obnoxious, which you didn't claim, and 30 cigarettes over the course of a day on their own site which I assume was several feet from yours shouldn't impose too much.
bumpy

48 pack every day, some things are just implied without being stated. LOL!

I assume that you counted each and every beer and jotted notes on consumption? and two people and 30 cigarettes seems to me to be about what chain smokers would do.
bumpy

Wasn't the original question about smoking on a smoker, and whether it was offensive or not? I've not read all the individual posts, but, man, this is good.

If you happen to see those same folks again, tell them they have some great new devices in the world today. Coolers, and ice, put that 48 pack in the cooler and put the ice on top to keep it cold, and move the cooler close to the seating area. That way, they won't have to in and out 48 times getting those beers.

I'm not a liberal with the "I have my rights" kinda attitude, but damn......if people drinking and smoking cigerettes bothers you while camping, buy 100 acres, and clear your spot in the middle and never worry about that again. :h :B

For the OP, smoke your briskets, chicken, and whatever else you's like to. If the smoke gets in your neighbors camp, go over and offer to let them sit in your camp, upwind from the smoke, and maybe enjoy some cocktails and new conversation.
