Grilled pizza

Did pizza on the grill while camping for the first time this last weekend. Everyone though it turned out great. Everyone got in on the putting pizzas together. I rolled out the dough and got it on the grill for the first side and let everyone take over from there.

After viewing many YouTube videos, this one is one that I gravitated to.

Worked for me. It also stops cooking the bottom. You can get the stone into the 800s if you want. Too hot for me; so easy to burn the bottom. High 600s seemed to work the best. Five minutes tops.

Very happy with the Camp Chef. Be aware there are two sizes; 14" and 16" and the accessories are size specific.

Santa brought me one of these last Christmas. It works great. 700 degrees.

Camp Chef oven

I'm shopping for a replacement grill right now. Camp Chef has a pretty good uTube channel. They say at the end of cooking, to use the pizza spatula and hold the pie up towards the top of the chamber near the roof. All the heat that rises will then cook the toppings.

Does that sound legit?

I carry a lot of stuff no doubt. 40' DP has lots of storage, no kids. I use the pizza oven at home mostly. I like the Camp Chef products. Very versatile.

We just used the fire pit, our stainless grill grate and the lid to our little Smokey Joe Weber. We grilled one side, took it off and flipped it over on a platter and added toppings to the grilled side. We dusted the pizza paddle with flour (or corn meal) and set the pizza on it to slide on to the grill. We covered it with the lid to heat the top. Oh and we used genuine wood.

Ron3rd that Naan bread looks good. I would like to try it sometime.
DogFolks, we eat good when we camp! We hope to make it to Maine and get some fresh lobster.
SuperDave you need to grill both sides so the dough cooks unless you use something like that Naan bread.
BigKatuna that pizza oven looks like it would work good. We carry enough gadgets already.

on my webber 22, using a pizza stone and arranging the coals around the outside of the grill and not under the stone yielded good results, without having to grill both sides. pre-heated the stone a good 30 minutes. takes a fair amount of coal, a full chimney's worth.

Another easy way is to use Naan bread. Makes a great base for pizza. Brush with olive oil and toast of both sides, then add your toppings.

Applies even with a lid. I use(d) a Weber 22. folks have taken Webers and lines the inside with ceramic and then the stone will get hot 500-600 and cook more like a real pizza oven.

There are tons of Weber Hacks on youtube.

Here is a pretty good one.

So, does that only apply if there is no lid or even if the grill has a lid?

Just curious, why does grilled pizza have to be grilled on both sides?
