I have done cobblers with fresh apples. I put them in a pan with some sugar and water in the bottom, add cinnamon or apple pie spice to them. When they soften add them to the recipe. If they don't look to be enough bulk them up with applesauce. You can make 2 Granny Smith's and a little applesauce go a long way.

We do this recipe with a bag of frozen berries and it comes out delicious. Tried it with fresh peaches and it was only "ok" in my book.

Like dbbls we make a cobbler in an 8" dutch oven using a can of fruit or pie filling and a Jiffy yellow cake mix with a sprinkle of sugar and cinnamon on top. Mine generally takes about 30-40 minutes at about 350.
Can't beat 2 ingredients that cost about $3 or less.

That is a very basic recipe and you can use any fruit pie filling. I have used cherry, blue berry (my favorite), apple and peach. I make mine in a cast iron Dutch oven using charcoal for heat, and it makes a very good cobbler
