More crock pot madness

For Christmas I tried a "crock pot ham". It's different but pretty darn tasty and easy to serve. Just used a half smoked ham (either half will work). Put two cups of sugar (any kind, white, brown, mixed) Fit the ham in, flat side down if possible. Pour a whole can of pineapple(any style) in syrup over the ham and some cocktail cherries and juice. Cook 6-7 hours. It creates this really tasty sauce the ham fall of the bone making it easy to serve.

Remember for an inverter it doesn't have to be a big hardwired into the plug system. A plug in one around 700 watts should do, just make sure and plug it into a real power outlet not a "cigar lighter" outlet. Found out in our coach the outlet by passenger seat is a heavy duty power outlet and the dash ones are not, they won't charge my laptop or power an inverter.

The ac may be used. Here in the south, it's a toss up. I mentioned it to my wife about doing it and the fact that we are traveling on Easter, her comment was to stop by a restaurant somewhere. Lmao

Anyone ever run their crockpot (sitting in sink) while going down the road with the generator running (motorhome)? We are not getting to our spring break destination until Easter Sunday and it would be nice to have a ham cooking in it while we drive.

I have done this in a toy hauler. Worked great.

Given the cost of fuel and the low current dram of crockpots it might be worth researching the use of an inverter. Without any facts in front of me my educated guess would be that the inverter would be the way to go if you can warrant buying one.

Agreed.

Generally when we did this, it was in conjunction with a summer trip where it was Nicaragua HOT... And I drove with both A/C's going anyway - where the generator was going to get used regardless.

We don't have an inverter. That will be something to add to the list, but it will be awhile before then. Our crock pot has a band (rubberish) that will hold the lid in place.

We use the crock running down the road anytime we have a long day planned, or a potluck where we are going. We use inverter and don't worry about running genset. :B

Only downside is hitting a bump and the lid rattles and all those wonderful smells fill the coach while you are trying to drive!

We have done corned beef, chili, pot roast and stew!

Which ham is better...butt or shoulder(shank)??

A Butt has a lot more usable meat. to make a rough cost comparison you can figure a butt will have about 70-80% more meat.
