Prepared Mashed Potatoes

The mashed potato instructions say it must be heated to 160---any reason I can't eat it cold?
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.

So if you want to make potato salad out of it you have to heat it, make potato salad, then cool it back down?

Both salmonella and listeria are NOT killed by cold temperatures and actually can multiply. Heating to 160 is the only way they are killed.

Because they taste nasty!!! NO really, they taste so much better heated!

That and the fact considering the conditions many prepared foods are made in? I heat up on high everything that says 'precooked'. I live by the rules of better being safe than sorry.

Just google Listeria on the FDA site and look at all the companies issued warning letters. That do NOT hit the 10:00 news.:W
