63 seconds

Since I upgraded Firefox to version 27.0, it takes FOREVER to open up.
Actually, I timed it with a stopwatch this morning and it took 63 seconds from the time I clicked the icon on the taskbar until I saw my home page on the screen.
Everything else seems to be working OK. I've run AVG, Malwarebytes and Glary utils. with no effect. Not sure what to try next except an uninstall/reinstall.
Any suggestions?

A follow-up and possible solution.
After trying various approaches with no success, I got a pop-up yesterday informing me that my C drive was getting dangerously low on available space. I try to limit the C drive to program files, but over time a bunch of downloads and updates had loaded it down with a bunch of unnecessary stuff.
Cleaned up the drive freeing up a few gigs of space, and today Firefox is opening normally.

Kind of drastic.

Almost like buying a new engine for your car just because your old one ran out of gas.

Linux is okay for some, but until you know what your needs are, it may not be right for you.

A good example of this would be applications like Genealogy. There aren't that many (if any at all) that work under Linux.

Before you go off and say "I can run Windows in a VM for that", I would say "why bother". Install MSE and change your behavior in Windows and you can be safe.

Don't get me wrong, I like Linux. I've support Mac, Linux and Windows every day for the past 25 years and iOS since the first iPhone came out. I've not worked much with Chrome or Android yet, but will be over the next 5 months.

Well, 27.0.1 (even newer) was just released this morning.
Interesting.

Create another user account on the computer and log in as that user. Launch FF and see if that takes just as long.

If it doesn't, then you probably have a bad file in your cache.

Alternately, empty your cache and cookies.

Here are some steps to take that may help Firefox start faster.

My FF is acting up also. Checking yahoo/att mail is becoming annoying. I'll be beating up on ATT tomorrow (AGAIN) but something else is up. I always check for plug in and add ons, but now when I boot WIN XP I'm getting a micro sec flash like something trying to load. Can't find it in programs but I suspect something got in.

I don't think I was clear enough. Firefox is working normally once it opens - no problems at all. It just take WAAAAY too long to open.

Most upgrade issues or slow startups are caused by incompatible extensions, plugins or themes. You can check this by running Firefox in Safe Mode to disable extensions under HELP>Reset with Add-ons Disabled.

Firefox does not have access to disable programs. Do you mean browser add-on extensions?

I've never had this issue, and wonder how that could happen.

FF 27 is working great for me...
There was a large Windows update this AM...wondering if that may have been part of the delay.

Well then, THAT saves me having to ask if anyone has had problems with the new version. Firefox keeps alerting me to upgrade.

I sure hope Firefox doesn't go the same way of Internet Explorer where each new version disabled more and more programs on your computer.:(

Until I read this thread, didn't know FF27 was out there. Jst did the upgrade and now FF is faster than with FF26.
