Adding SiriusXM to Trailer

The wife can't live without her SiriusXM radio in her SUV. She would like me to add it to our new trailer. How did some of you add a second device to your account that is a low-cost option for occasional use? In other words, what's the cheapest way to do it?

that's tempting, which reminds me ... I need to call them and make sure they don't auto-renew the subscription I have on a turned-in lease vehicle - I don't believe my salesman telling me that Chrysler cancels it automatically.

when I tried to move the subscription to my new ride back in September, Sirius told me the remaining time on the account (9 months on a 36 month subscription) was worthless and could not be transferred to my new vehicle... they said they could refund a prorated amount; somewhere around $6.

When the free time ends on my new truck, Sirius will need to make me a really sweet deal, or I'll just stick with Pandora and Google Music.

You can add a 2nd device to your account, but I don't think the price break occurs until your 3rd or 4th device.

Thanks for the info folks, the receiver for the 'ol Tundra might be the way to go then move it to the trailer when desired. Just trying to find a way to not pay for 2 full subscriptions and was hoping there was a way to "add" a device to your main account like you can add a cell phone to your plan for 10-15 bucks a month.

I use the XM Oynx in my truck, and added 2nd dock to the TT.

It was actually pretty easy, I routed the antenna cable up the entertainment center hollow wall and into the a/c duct. From the a/c duct I ran it to the a/c unit and stuck it to the metal top and put the plastic cover back on. I have yet to camp anywhere the service is poor, and we camp pretty remote in the hills and try to put the TT in the shade.

I would get one for your truck and put a 2nd doc in the TT, that gives you XM on the road and when parked.

Ron, same thing in my new Ram... Sirius is part of the truck, there's nothing to remove. I had thought about getting an external receiver to share between my trailer and my daily driver Subaru wagon, but the monthly cost was just too much to justify. Instead, I listen to music off my phone if there is service, or from a USB memory stick that contains a huge selection of mp3 files.

Thanks for all the info folks. Gordon, I "think" the radio in my new trailer is Sirius ready, but I'm gonna check when I get home. Otherwise I guess I'll need one of their receivers. I know it has USB because we plug the wife's iPod in from time to time to play music.

BTW, the wife's new Chevy Traverse has Sirius built in, so that's how she got addicted. She liked it so much we renewed after the free trial expired. That's all she listens to now.

Cheapest is to discontinue the built in Radio subscription and buy something like the Roady. One that with the proper docks can be moved from place to place.

We move ours from our cabin, to our truck, and then to our trailer. We have 2 DC docking stations/antennas (1-Truck, 1-TT). For our cabin (120V) we use the portable boom box dock (it is 120v, 8-D batteries). In the TT we tapped into the on board stereo Aux-system jack, and added a 12v lighter connection. We do take the boom box with us camping for outside use. Therefore, we just have on radio that we can use in multiple locations and it works great for us.

Cheapest way is to subscribe to their Internet streaming service... out of curiosity, is the SUV a modern factory integrated setup, or an older after-market?

The older after-market decoders used to be portable, so you could pop the decoder out of your car and into another base station connected to your home (or trailer) stereo, or a portable "boom box" type setup. I don't think they make those anymore but I'm sure they're on a popular online auction site.
