Long time lurker first time poster here

I found out about this a few months ago as I had AT&T phones on the unlimited plan at the time and added it. It works great, the thing is now they offer a stand alone plan for $20 also so anyone can get it. You can get all the details on this cellular forum. Just thought I would pass along.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1894167-Stand-alone-AT-amp-amp-T-Unlimited-ZTE-Mobley-Hotspot-now-only-20!!!!!

(update.... most details are now in this thread so just keep reading ๐Ÿ™‚

Device is called a ZTE Mobley and its designed for cars, but can be used anywhere with an adapter, also AT&T seems to never slow your data no matter how much you use.

Adapters can be purchased:
Amazon, some are even prime

Ebay sells them also though some of the newer sellers look sketchy

These are the 2 original sellers and a known to be good.

With my booster I have a signal strength of -79db, great signal but that doesn't matter much out here I guess.

Glad I have both Verizon and AT&T services just that Verizon is so darn expensive .... =(

Can you tell me a bit more about using a booster? My rv is actually a horse trailer with living quarters. Our trips consist mostly of 2 or 3 day horse shows so internet is really just for the roku tvs. Netflix etc. wondering if it would be practical to add a booster?

A Wilson Sleek or weboost Sleek would work well for you. the Wilson Sleek is the old name, but they are identical devices. You can still buy the Wilson Sleek on eBay and Amazon for about $99, the weboost Sleek is $169. They come with an antenna with magnetic mount.

I'm not getting as good of reception as I had hoped. Any suggestions? I'm in an area that shows I should have good coverage but one or two bars at the most. I'm using it in the living quarters of an aluminum skinned horse trailer and wondering if that might be the problem but thinking this is how rvs are constructed also?

I am in an area that "shows" good coverage but the service is not. That's actually pretty typical. Also, most RV are fiberglass so the aluminimum skin of your RV can have a drastic effect on the signal strength. Google "cell towers in this area" and find your closest one and put the device in that window.

We have ours next to a window and that seems to help.

What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

This is not a Mobley issue. The router will cut the speed of any similar device broadcasting on wifi including a campground wifi connection. It may not really be 1/2 but it is generally slower than any direct connection.

As far as I understand, your speed will cut in half if your router is connected to the Mobley wirelessly because, unless it has two radios, your router is sending and receiving on the same channel so it can't do both at the same time. If you use the USB connection different story.

Thanks Dave.

Another question. I have two roku tvs in my trailer. I have travel router which is connected to the mobly. All other devices are connected to the travel router. I did this because some of the horse shows have free wifi so n those cases I would just connect the travel router to the new wifi then kids, gf, etc wouldn't have to change their wifi on their devices. Basically they connect to "trailer wifi" once and I handle the rest. I read that this could be cutting my speeds in half from the mobly. Is that true?

If you log on to your Mobley and select About from the menu on left it will show your signal strength.

How can I find out the signal strength that my mobly is receiving? I would assume the wifi indicator on my phone is showing the strength from mobly to phone no necessarily the signal the mobly is getting?

Dave

I just dug through the "fine print" Connected Car section at the AT&T site where the July 17th date used to be, and now it just has the usual "Subject to change without notice." disclaimer.
