Chromebook - How Sophisticated is the Spreadsheet?

I downloaded Google drive onto my PC so I could play with their spreadsheet, but I think it is accessing my Microsoft Excel, as it seems identical.

Will the Google spreadsheet alphabetize, say, a list of books first by author, then by book title? Will it handle simple equations, including exponentials?

Google's spreadsheet can perform very much like MS Excel, most features and functions carry over with a few changes here and there. The biggest difference would be if you use VBA macros in your Excel spreadsheet, those won't carry over. Google uses it's own Java based macro language.

Google sheets has a fair number of features, and there are a large assortment of free and paid add-ons for it that do almost anything.

Basic alphabetizing should be possible using built-in functions, exponential functions in math shouldn't be a problem either.
