Connecting dish receiver to video distribution box

Just changed over to Dish network, purchased 211 receiver and King tailgater. Everything went fine until I tried to connect HDMI output from receiver to my video distribution box (came with RV, made by Winegard). All fittings are coax cable.....no HDMI or composite video. I want best signal for HD reception, but how do I make the connection? Is there a converter that will do this?

I can connect direct to front TV, but that doesn't help with the other two TV's.

If anyone else has done this please help?

wa8yxm, do you have the 211k?
This sounds like a good alternative. Not made by dish anymore, but some new ones out there.

Hi Doug, I bet they would give you everything for free if you switched. At any rate, good luck with your solution, some good info here.

Get an HDMI to composite converter with RF modulator. Put that between the receiver and distribution box. It'll be SD but it's cheap and easy. Some people like SD for some reason.

Bill.Satellite, you are correct. We would like to continue using the video distribution system and not spend big bucks for conversion.

Thanks, Doug

How does this really limited response about DirecTV help the OP who is using Dish?

Good point. Missed the "dish" reference. A lot of folks call ALL sat stuff dish. Of course my post would solve his problem. I'll pay closer attention in the future.

That is the correct problem. The coax is wired for coax signal distribution inside the coach and he needs HDMI connections between the receiver and TV.
However, there are several ways, including modifying the way the antenna connections run, to over come the problem. I don't think the OP wants to spend the kind of money required for HDMI over coax when some very inexpensive options have been presented.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

I didn't see a mention of antenna.

I thought the problem is that the RV is wired with coax and he doesn't want to pull HDMI cables.

But I could be wrong - there's a first time for everything ๐Ÿ™‚

Techwriter, the satellite is not the problem. Its the receiver output wiring. On my previous directv receiver the output wire was rg6 digital. This was connected to my video distribution control, allowing the sat signal to be sent to other devices. The Dish receiver (211)output is either HDMI or RCA. Has nothing to do with SAT.

Joebedford, can't tell from image, does the video controller have coax rg6 output fittings?

Doug
No, but they have another box with coax outputs.

I did a very quick search and this is the first one I found. It's pretty pricey but exactly what you want.

Maybe you could get along with the main TV getting HD and the 2nd TV only getting SD. If the receiver is near the main TV and you can get and HDMI cable there then you can use the 3 RCA outputs to a coax converter (cheap) and plug that into your Video Control Center.
The other option is to bring a 2nd input in from the antenna, and run that to the bedroom (either new run or use the coax that already runs to it) and place a 2nd receiver at the 2nd TV. Now you have HD at both locations AND you can watch/record 2 different channels at the same time.

Get a 211K instead of a 211Z K has coax out.

Or you can get an HDMI to Coax modulator.. I think they are a tad expensive (3 digits) but that's my opinion HDTV is not that important to me.

OR if the Z has A/V out (Red/White/Yellow) (I do not know) you can use the DVD in on your switch box via a proper A/B switch.. Lots of methods.

Final and best recommendation.> Get an HDMI Splitter (these are far cheeper) and a LONG HDMI cable and run HDMI to all TV's sellect SAT by using TV's controls (INPUT SELECT) HD to all sets that way.

First, because you're just repeating the same HDMI signal from your 211, you'll be limited to watching the same program on each TV.

That said . . .

You can connect an HDMI splitter (like AV Toolbox AVT-6441) to your 211, and then pull HDMI wire from your 211 to each TV -- a real PITA.

Or, get an HDMI-to-coax converter. Easy, but expensive.
