DirectTV activation

I just installed a dish and need to know what number to call to tell DirectTV that i am in, say Tucson. I call the general number, (800) 531-5000, but cannot figure out what to ask for in the voice prompts. I have given up calling DirectTV, as every person I talk to tells me something different and after trying about 11 options, i gave up and thought i would post this inquiry. If you have DirectTV, how do you get ahold of someone to tell them where you are?

Doing that online is much faster and easier.

When I need to reboot my box from non use I call 1 (877)235-6139 . Local service area (866) 678-9471 these are numbers the installers use. If calling for local service STRESS service change only

I assume you mean zip code.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

You don't need an address, all you need is the area code. You are not moving. All you want is a temporary change of area code for the local channels.
But depends who you talk to, some people at DTV insist they need an address. If you insist you don't have one, they usually figure it out to do it thru just the area code.
But one time, I just gave up and gave them a phony 123 Main st address, and it worked. People at DTV can be funny,....or stupid, most times both.

Thought I would check that out. Hitting 4 is the option to hit if you are moving and then hitting 5 is all other requests. Sounds like a reasonable plan. You do have to enter your phone number or account number before you can get to these prompts.

I finally found someone at DirectTV that had an answer and i tested it. call the general number and then when you start getting the voice prompts press #4 and then at the secondary prompt, press #5.

more clarification. I have a King Quest dish. Activation was the wrong term. i have activated it, but need to know how to contact DirectTV to tell them where I am so I can pick up the local channels where I am.

Call this number: 1-866-923-1994.

That number is for people who are moving their household. When you call them, do not say the words "RV" or "Motorhome". It will only confuse the matter. Tell them you want to change your service address. Give them the address you are located and they will send you the local channels for that area.

In the process, they may also change your billing address, but you can change that back on your own on their website if you want to. You cannot change your service address on their website though.

Bingo! That's what we do twice a year. They know exactly what their doing as apposed to Habib in customer service in India some where.

It can be a very difficult thing to do with DirecTV (easy with Dish Network) but changing locals is possible "assuming" you have the correct kind of antenna. Some areas of the Country have the locals broadcast on 99 and 103 which no dome is capable of receiving so you have 2 issues to deal with. When you call DTV let them know that you already have an antenna installed at the new location and you are receiving a signal you just need them to change the service address but DO NOT change your billing address. Sometimes telling them you are at your Summer home helps or using a similar story. It's not that they don't want to give service to an RV, it's only that there is nothing in the script they are reading that tells them what to do with someone in an RV.

It was real easy for us as well after I found out you have to have the account number handy as well as the ACCESS CARD number. I put all of that info in an envelope and taped it to the rcvr...

My older SAT RCVR would lose its setting every time I unplugged it. I had to go on-line everytime we setup... Once you get the acct number they know who you are and it was just a couple of clicks to bring it back up again...

This was when we was bringing one of our SAT RCVRS from the house on the RV TRIPs. I know your situation is bit different but this is how it worked for us a few years back when we was using a separate dish with one of our spare SAT RCVRS...

When the NATL BROADCAST went to their new digital mode local transmissions we kinda stopped bringing along the SAT DISH and spare SAT RCVR with us. The local CLEAR TV stations from the local towns was all in high def mode and actually alot better reception than on the SAT. Of course this is only for Natl Broadcast channels using the batwing OTA antenna... No CNN haha...

When connected to Direct, just listen to the options and hit 0. (zero)
You will be connected to a real person. If not, just hit 0 again. I never listen to the menu options.

You need an acc to activate a box on line. If you don't have an acc call 1-800-531-5000
