DirectV Help.

Background: I have just transferred from DISH to DirectV. I have a motor home with the crank up dish; it has a DISH single LNB on it.

I now have a DirectV receiver H23-600 in my entertainment room that the installer from DirectV says that will work in my motor home.

Question: 1. What LNB do I need to receive the Satellite signal?
2. How do I connect the receiver (H23-600) to my TV (Analog)?
3. How do I find out what the different azimuth and Elevations are when on the road?

I am sure I've missed something, feel free to let me know if I have. Any and all help is appreciated. I will keep all updated on my progress, thanks to all who reply.
I did do a search, but too many referred to box, receiver and LNB. I have specific equipment that I need answers to. Thanks, Bill.

Satellite AR is the app I use on my android phone. You can look at all the satellites or just choose the one you would like to locate, such as Directv.

It's generally in settings and satellite setup.

I never needed that information for my SD dish. Just pointed in the same direction as anyone around me or towards the SE. Then move left and swing back south (western states) until the $25 meter found a bird. Then dialed in the bird and checked via radio with DW to see if it was a DTV bird. If not it was usually Dish and the next one was DTV 101. Very quick and easy with no need for any sat location information or zip code or compass etc. No need to level the dish as well.

More recently I installed a iPhone app that lets me know if I can get a signal. We've even pre surveyed sites in a CG. See below, this was the only place at my daughters house to get the signal.

my dish 211k has a coaxial and HDMI fitting on it, in addition to the rCA plugs. perhaps his direct unit also has a F style connector.

I did a little GOOGLE research and found that your receiver will work with a "legacy" setup. That means it will work with the old style antenna and does not need (although it is compatible with) an SWM setup. It will work with any LNB that will receive Directv's SD signal on satellite 101.

As far as hooking it to the TV, either the RCA jacks, or get an RF Modulator. Personally, I would go with the RF Modulator because it uses channel 3/4 just like any other device hooked to the TV. RCA jacks from receiver to RF Modulator, and regular coax to analog TV. Automatically cuts the antenna in/out just by turning on the receiver.

Question: 1. What LNB do I need to receive the Satellite signal?
A1:If your DirecTV receiver is SD only (not DirecHDTV) the existing LNB will work fine in all likelyhood. If not Radio Shack has lNBs that will A Solo, single or double (Double means two outputs) will work, basically anything works.
That said, Googling and downloading the manual it appears the H23 is an HD model, so that takes a special SWM LNB from DirecTV. It may, however work in SD mode with any LNB.. Still reading. Finished reading, still not sure

Question: 2. How do I connect the receiver (H23-600) to my TV (Analog)?
Answer Older Analog only TV's you can use the A/V (line) input, Red/yellow/white cables with RCA (Phono) plugs on them.. No Coax out to Tv

If you need to programming to a remote TV you can get a device designed for DVD players called a modulator, they go for around 25 bucks, A/V in, Coax out.


QUestion 3. How do I find out what the different azimuth and Elevations are when on the road?

Answer: this is the easy question, you ask the receiver for it.. Most likely MENU (Button on remote) SETTINGS, Satellite you should have an option that requests your ZIP CODE, enter it and then it will give you the suggestions.

If not,, many sat finder apps for your cell phone, most work well plus use the cell phone camera to test for trees, the sat you are looking for is located at 101 degrees west latitude.

Fine tuning the antenna (You did not ask) see menu path above, Signal strength, use a portable TV to view the program if you can (A Modulator makes this easy)

Use your TV and receiver to find the azimuth and elevation for the area you are in, just enter the zip code. It will take a little practice to find the 101W satellite (there is an app out there for your smart phone, makes it easy). After a few times setting up, you will be a pro at setup. GL
