DISH TV changes satellite signals

For anyone whose Dish reception stopped, it seems that Dish TV changed satellite protocols and the older KVH and Winegard antennas wont track the necessary satellites (mine is a KVH R6). They didn't tell anyone, manufacturers of the antenna's included. When I called DISH, they knew nothing, and after an hour or so the response was they can't do anything about it and we should leave feedback on their website. Apparently there is one person at DISH who is in the know about what happenbed, his name is Philip and his phone number is 540-394-2921. I haven't been able to get through to him to complain but I will keep trying. If it happened to you, you should call and complain. Or you could buy a new $2500 antenna...

So, I guess this explains why I have not been able to acquire a satellite fix with my Winegard Carryout GM1518 and viP 211k receiver? Would you recommend getting both a new Dome and the new viP 211Z receiver? Thanks for any help in this.

Receiver is fine just need a different dome for dish network.

Talk to Winegard Tech Support first before replacing your dome. Your 211K should probably be fine.

Ok, if you have a Dish TV system including a DISH-1000x Dish and receiver, it still works the change does not affect you.

But if you have a 3rd party antenna, Like a Winegard automatic, or a king-controls automatic or _____ automatic. Then the 3rd party antenna no longer works.. All the dish hardware is just fine. it's the 3rd party stuff that is "Broken"..

A common practice by the way.

If you have a KEURIG cofee maker.. you have been able to use both Green Mountain (Keurig branded) products and 3rd party coffee pods as well.

So Green Mountain came out with the Keurig 2.0.. Which is so paranoid about 3rd party products that not only will it not use say roger's Coffee pods.. Some Keurig branded products from Green Mountain won't work.. They jailed it that tight.

Same thing.. Same thing exactly. And yes I know how to "Fix" the Keurig 2.0, or at least I think I do.. Two ways.. One is guaranteed.

BB TX - this IS new news and is not the same discussion as nobody, even KVH, knew this was about to happen. This change just happened last Thursday (March 17) at 3AM. it affects dish tv subscribers with KVH or Winegard units; i.e. mine is a KVH R6 in-motion box. this is NOT the same issue as the Tracking Parameters software flash (KVH Technical Bulletin 15 & 16) needed to continue to track 119 and 110 on Dish. Direct TV users are still ok.

This has also affected King control units. I have a King 9762, after talking with King controls, and Dish I have a choice, switch over to Direct TV, sign up for a two year contract rent their equipment, or change out the dome for a different unit. King controls stated that they would not be supporting the 9762 any longer. Right now I have an anchor, or a large paper weight sitting on my roof.

I share your pain, Ozarkwoods.

King has also told us that "You would need new software and a new board. You cannot update it with just the keypad. It will be a $200 deposit for the software updater and the board would run $410. We are out of the boards right now. None of our Dealers would have the parts to update it."

However, there's a somewhat lower cost option -- use a portable dish or dome, such as the Tailgater, Anser, Pathway, or Carryout. The Pathway X2 seems to be my preference.

In most cases, yes.

But after August 1st there will be places where you will not be able to receive local TV stations on your Travler or any other sat dish that can only tune in DISH's Western Arc sats (110, 119, and 129).

I was just informed by Winegard that anything made prior to 2012 will not work with the new dish system.
I now have a KVH R5sl and a Winegard Carryout GM1518 that are basically worthless except for satellite 119 with dish or standard definition with direct, but Direct doesn't have pay as you go:M

Yes, the Tailgators should work just fine.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Technical Bulletin
Date: March 21, 2016
Subject: DISH Network Satellites Upgraded to 8PSK Modulation
Products Affected
TracVisionยฎ L3, S3, R1DX, R4, R5, R4SL, R5SL, and R6DX
Problem Description
DISH Networkยฎ has converted their satellite transmission signals from QPSK modulation to a more efficient
8PSK format. This newer format improves the customer experience by providing more high-definition
programming and additional content. The new format is not compatible with many older DISH Network
receivers, and impacts the ability of some older KVH antenna systems to identify and track DISH Network
satellites.
IMPORTANT! KVHโ€™s latest generation of TracVision products (RV1 and A9) are fully compatible with
8PSK format. The instructions for updating the RV1 and A9 satellite library are provided at the end
of this bulletin.
Problem Solution
The products affected will only be able to track DISH Networkโ€™s 119ยฐW satellite. Verify that the following
tracking parameters are configured in the system.
Parameter Satellite 119ยฐW
Polarization LHCP RHCP
Frequency 12530 MHz 12632 MHz
Symbol Rate 20000 20000
FEC Code 6/7 6/7
Network ID 0x0003 0x0003
Decoding Type DSS DSS
Update the tracking parameters as described on the next page.
If you have any questions about this problem or its solution, please contact KVH Technical Support at
+1 401 847-3327 or via e-mail at support@kvh.com.

Updating the Satellite Library in an RV1 and A9 System
Service providers occasionally change the tracking parameters of their satellites, necessitating an update to
the data in the TracVision satellite library. You can update the systemโ€™s satellite library to the latest version at
any time by downloading the file from KVHโ€™s Update server and uploading it to the TV-Hub. When you update
the library, the new version simply overwrites the previously installed version.
IMPORTANT! With the exception of user-defined satellites, updating the satellite library overwrites
any changes you have made to the satelliteโ€™s tracking parameters. All parameters for preset
satellites revert to their factory default settings.
Use one of the following methods to update the satellite library:
Using an Onboard Network with Internet Access
1. Connect your computer to the same network as the TV-Hub.
2. At the Updates page of the web interface, select the satellite library. Then select Download Update.
This will download the latest version of the library file onto your computer.
3. Select Install Update. Then navigate to and select the library file (it has a .xml extension) saved on
your computer. It will only take a few seconds for the update to complete.
Using a SmartPhone or Tablet
If you have an Appleยฎ iOS or Googleโ„ข Androidโ„ข smartphone or tablet, and your device has an Internet
connection, you can use the TracVision TV/RV App to download the latest library file and upload it to the
system. You can download the App for free from the Apple iTunesยฎ App Storeโ„ข or Google Play Store.
Using a Computer with Internet Access
If your computer has an Internet connection, you can use that connection to download the library file. Follow
these steps:
1. Download the latest version of the library file onto your
computer from the KVH website (go to www.kvh.com/
Support/Product-Support-Library/Software-Updates).
2. Once you have downloaded the file onto your computer, use
the same computer to access the TV-Hubโ€™s web interface.
3. At the Updates page of the web interface, select the satellite
library then select Install Update. Navigate to and select the
library file (it has a .xml extension) saved on your computer.
It will only take a few seconds for the update to complete.

After a lot of google searching and finding nothing, I am trying to understand how it is that you are apparently the only person who knows about this new change that supposedly even Dish and KVH does not know about.

Well then I guess you know best. I honestly don't care, one way or the other, I was merely trying to give DISH customers with in motion antennas a heads up but, true to forum fashion, when the "experts" chime in, then nothing else matters. For those of you whose Dish service goes down (marine or RV), Abbi at KVH Tech support is working on this or there is a designated tech at DISH (Philip, direct line 540-394-2921) that you can call and complain to, although he's very slow in returning calls and so far hasn't been much help.

my R6 still works just fine. Direct TV still comes in great and it tracks very well as you travel down the road. Dish used to work good, I had to update the software a couple months back for new sat tracking parameters but it was easily accomplished. I am told I still will be able to get 119 for dish but that will only give about 1/3 of the channel coverage so the R6 is unusable for Dish.
