iPads Sold Out

I've been interested in obtaining an iPad recently. Virtually every store is sold out. Undoubtedly, they're flying off the shelves because of the influx of people working from home, among other reasons.
I already have an android tablet which works OK, but being a previous iPad owner I feel I'd prefer that device instead as a spare computer since my current laptop is getting old, plus I think the iPad is a quality product albeit being somewhat pricey.. I know I could probably order one from Amazon, but I've always preferred dealing with brick and mortar businesses, if possible. Anyhow, no big deal at this time. Just thought I'd squawk a little. ๐Ÿ™‚

WELL, I picked up my new iPad, 7th gen 10.2โ€ 2 days ago, together with a case and accompanying Bluetooth keyboard,Though i did own an iPad Air before, Iโ€™m still relearning a few things. . Very happy with it so far. My regular computer has been a Toshiba laptop running Windows10. Itโ€™s several years old and still running well. If it dies eventually, I think I can comfortably use this iPad as my regular computer For a while. I also have an android tablet, but I feel the iPad is a higher quality device. The android tablet was about $80 and worked fairly well, but i feel the $300 (incl tax) I paid for the iPad was money well spent. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It is rare for an Android to be the topic in these discussions.

They all start with HELP by the way.

Reason number (Actually it's not even on the list) I have 'Droids.

My reason for prefering 'Droids to IOS stuff goes back to the 1980's and is kind of political so I won't be discussing it here.

I'm with ya on the "fruit bias". I worked and am now retired close to where Apple started and I didn't like their way of doing business right from the get-go.

I'm personally 100% Mircrosoft and Android ( always have been). However, I set up the DW with an Apple product cuz MS didn't have anything that small ... and it's been uuuugggggh with that device ever since.

Right. Instead you post some Mac vs PC tripe AFTER the OP has already made his purchase. Colossally useless.

OP here. Well, I went ahead and ordered from Amazon, although I prefer brick and mortar stores for my own reason. I got a good price plus free shipping, having joined Prime for free 30 days. Anyhow, I know I'll enjoy my new device. My previous ipad (Air model) was stolen along with my vehicle last year in Albuquerque. I didn't get the Air model this time since I felt the base model would be sufficient for my needs.
I'll no doubt use the new iPad for watching Youtube and other entertainment sites, while reserving my Toshiba laptop for other uses.
i do appreciate all the input and advice from you folks on this forum.
Have a safe future, all of you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you tried to buy a bicycle lately? Every Wal-Mart and Academy I have been picked clean. Guy from bike shop I had to get some parts for a few weeks ago said that the cheaper ones were selling as fast as he could get them assembled because the supply from China has essentially dried up, plus with being quarantined, it was the only thing a lot of people could do to get exercise

I don't understand why not simply order direct from Apple on their website? I always do....fast and simple....

Good points brought out by everybody, some which I hadn't considered. Note to JCpainter: The Best Buy store nearest me had one in stock, but not the model I wanted (too much $$).

This.

I can't count how many things I have wanted to order and needed by a specific time from Amazon only to find that it will be weeks before they are available. Supply chain is severely impacted by COVID, especially components from other countries.

Most brands/types of tablets are in short supply right now. It has less to do with people working from home (who tend to do that on a laptop) than with people trying to equip their elderly parents and grandparents to do video chats while isolated in their retirement communities or nursing homes. We found an iPad for my 89 y.o. mother-in-law about the third week of April - but it wasn't easy.
