Kindle Fire HD/ Nexus 7

I'm comparing the two and I will admit I don't know a whole lot about tablets. The one big question I have is can I download Google Chrome onto the Kindle Fire HD the Nexus comes wit it and that's what I use for a browser. The other question I have is the Kindle doesn't come with a wall charger but I have a mini USB charger for my phone so will that work for the Kindle.

Did you get the 2012 Nexus 7 or the new 2013 Nexus 7?

I just got a 2013 Nexus 7 the other day and really like it. It has an amazing screen with 1920x1200 resolution, twice the RAM of the original, faster processor and faster gpu. I gave my original Nexus 7 to my daughter.

Is ours still working, my first one lasted 4 days and died now the replacement after 1 1/2 days just continually reboots itself. I'm going back to Best Buy tomorrow and dump this thing :M.

I haven't had any problems with mine. We have 2 of the original models in our house that have been problem free as well. Sorry to hear you're having issues.

It was working great at first and I really like it but then it started rebooting every once in a while now that's all it does. Even if I get it booted up into safe mode it well still reboot itself.

I have a Nexus 7, and the wife, to show me how much smarter she is, bought a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 a month ago.

IMHO the Nexus is far and away a better device. Kindles are pretty locked in to Amazon, and they do their best to exclude anything Googleish. (Of course, Google makes it tough to use Amazon in the Nexus, but I digress.) The Kindle's Android system is significantly downgraded. The default browser is poor. However, Firefox can be loaded onto both devices. There is a much wider range of usable apps for almost any purpose on Google Play as compared to Amazon.

Looking at the specs for the 2013 Nexus, it seems to me only a moderate upgrade. No reason to toss a 2012 in favor of a newer one.

However, I much prefer my desktop to either tablet for normal daily computerizing.

I picked a Nexus 7 at Best Buy and it's doing everything I wanted it to do and then some. The keyboard has a learning curve and I'm still learning.

Do you know that the next generation Nexus 7 will be announced shortly?

One of many rumors on the web.

We haven't bought one yet but if we do a new one would come out the next day. Our homebase is in a small town so there is no place close to buy one and we are getting close to hitting the road so I can't order one on line. The best price I have found is Walmart and Staples with Staple being the cheapest but their stores a few and far between.

After you use the Nexus a bit, you may find that you also want a Kindle paper white for reading. I have the Nexus 7, and it is a wonderful tablet. I now use it more than my laptop, especially when I am out. But for reading books, I find the backlit, and glossy, screen hard on the eyes. It also does not work well in sunshine. I just find that I can't do any serious reading on it.

I gave my wife my Kindle Touch, and am stealing it back when I decide to sit down and read an ebook.

I don't think you'll regret your decision, I have an 8G Nexus 7 (bought when they first came out) and really like it.

Check Staples.com, they have a sale on the 32G Nexus 7 at $199 ($249 from Google) and there is a coupon code 20098 that can be applied at checkout so the final price is $169 with free shipping. The $30 off coupon code expires today (7/14/2013).

I have a KF with the Chrome app. When using Chrome the Kindle soon scoots me off to the Kindle browser. But at least I can get to my favorites from Chrome.
