My XP OS is Recieving Updates.

Here's a curious thing.Microsoft is no longer supporting XP, yet I'm receiving regular updates. I'm certainly not complaining but curious why this is happening. Not long ago I re-installed the OS and think that possibly may have caused it, but I'm just guessing. Any ideas?

Interesting indeed because that link only talks about an extension to the anti-virus support, not security patches, and it certainly doesn't explain the IE update.

The IE update was only to IE 8. Interestingly, some of the updates have been security patches. Evidently, Microsoft is only supplying older updates which were never downloaded since I haven't used this computer in a while.

Just because support ended for XP does not mean that support ended for MSE, IE or the many other MS products you may have installed on your machine.

Very interesting. I had no idea support had been extended. I
guess that explains why I'm receiving the updates. This isn't my primary PC. I'm just kinda "playing around" with it. My new laptop is a Toshiba running Win 8.1.

This won't explain your situation but MS is supporting XP with continued updates until 2019. This is in agreement with the banking and point of sale industry. However, in order to get these updates a registry change is needed in order to make your XP installation appear as a POS version of XP.

I'm aware of that. I made no changes to the registry. Perhaps one of the PC cleaning programs I use may have inadvertently done so.

I'm running XP Home edition. The updates are for security and even an updated version of IE. Updates are being installed right now as I type.

I read the link above ...

That is great news for me if it is true. I lost a bunch of extreme setup here using XP PLUS... My two DELL M90s have been setting on the side since the initial drop dead date...

Has other XP-PLUS users noticed this to be true yet...

I am going to start charging DELL M90 laptop batteries to see if those have to be replaced...
