New laptop for an old guy

I am looking to replace my old Compaq laptop with Windows vista. It is very slow and the screen is cracked at the hinge area. I have looked at a number of the new ones and tried to understand what all the specs mean. From what I have concluded an Intel I5 chip with 4 gb of ram and 500 g of storage would be good enough for surfing the net, email, and enough storage for pictures. I found a HP Pavilion 15_ab165us at Staples on sale for $ 449. It has an I5 chip 5th generation,6gb ram and a terabite of storage. Does anyone know anything about this laptop? Does the price seem good for what it has in it?

I didn't know you could get a small screen iPad for $449 price of a HP that has a 15" screen. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So far I like the HP laptop but struggling with windows 10. I can't figure out how to get to page 2 or 3 of my emails, there is nothing that says page 2 or next page. .
What browser and what email provider?
I am using Microsoft Edge and mail which came with the computer. I think edge is just explorer and mail is outlook.

So far I like the HP laptop but struggling with windows 10. I can't figure out how to get to page 2 or 3 of my emails, there is nothing that says page 2 or next page. Also on my Vista laptop I can highlight and right click and do a google search or copy and paste. I can't figure out how to do this function yet.

I have always had good luck with Dell refurbished laptops and did my employer. You can go on chat with them, tell them what you want to do with your computer and they will come up with a reasonable deal. You get the full factory warranty and support.

I can say the only non Dell computer we've purchased was a Lenovo from Best Buy. Lenovo had to buy it back at full price plus sales tax six months out of warranty when the hinge failed. Even though we got the refund it took three months of brain damage working with Lenovo's horrible tech support.

DW's 7 year old Dell came with Vista but we immediately upgraded to W7 (free). A new one is in the budget for this year.

As we keep our PCs for a long time in tech years (my 'new' PC is 6 years old), I've been looking at the 6th gen Intel processors. But as you might expect, there is a big price jump between 5th gen and 6th gen. I think I'll go for 5th gen.

She doesn't do anything exotic, but she does a lot of it simultaneously. Not at all uncommon for here to have 10 browser windows open, Quicken, Word x 3, Excel x 6, streaming video and email - all simultaneously. I'm going for a lot of Ram for her this time.

Is that micro SD, mini SD or mini SDHC cards?

SD (largest size); all smaller cards can be accommodated with an adapter.

I have both. I'm always on the iPad, love it.

IT'S NOT A LAPTOP!

Each has it's place.

Friend of mine runs a 10 year old DELL Vista (I think) box.. It is gasping and weezing and about to die a natural death.

I picked her up an HP quad cord, 4 Gigs ram 500 HD, forget teh speed at Wal-Mart on black Friday.. I think it was 199.95.. Same as the much less powerful HP Stream beside me one year earlier.

It's easy to get burried in useless technobabble in these forums. The simplest answers are often the best.
