Traveling to east coast with Dish Network

I’m in the planning stage of a trip to Long Island for about a month in the spring. I have Dish Network with a 1000.2 western arc antenna and VIP211K receiver.

I’m wondering if there is a problem receiving the satellites, especially 129W, because of the low elevation of the satellites from the east coast.

Anyone have any experience with using western arc antenna on the east coast?

Also, I have tried to aim my 1000.2 western arc dish at the eastern arc satellites 72.7W and 61.5W from home in New Mexico. I was able to get them and received many channels on 72.7W but none on 61.5W. Is there any programming on 61.5W? If there is useful stuff there what do I need to receive it? Would this be a good option on the trip?

Here's a list of what's carried on 61.5. The "Conus Beam" listings are pretty much nationwide, but they may not all be viewable using a Dish receiver due to encrypting.

If you're staying in Long Island, you would probably be getting NY locals.

That is what I thought. Did not know if there was any other programming on 61.5 that was not spot beamed.

Adding camp site number to the address to avoid conflicts is a great idea, thanks.

If you're in a campground or RV park, include your site number as an extension of the street address, to avoid conflicts with other Dish users using the same address."

Thanks for the info.

From what I'm reading I should be able to use western arc satellites unless there are trees in the way at low elevations. If this is the case I can swing my antenna around and point to 72.7 to receive most of my programming.

An eastern arc LNB might make receiving the eastern arc satellites easier. I can lock on to 72.7 with my western arc antenna without much trouble here in New Mexico.

I can also lock on to 61.5 here at home but don't get any programming. I don't know if I should get anything or if I would get anything using an eastern arc LNB. I don't see why an eastern arc LNB would get me any programming on 61.5 if I don't get it with what I have now. If the locals are on 61.5 and I can't see them maybe I have to call dish and tell them I'm on the east coast.

Isn't the Eastern Arc version 1000.4 ?

The 1000.2's standard configuration is Western Arc. The 1000.4 standard config is Eastern Arc.

However, both the 1000.2 and 1000.4 can be made into either Eastern or Western Arc dishes.

61.5 is pretty much local networks and sd broadcast, 72.2 has everything else and unless you want the spanish channels you don't need 77,the newest dish for east arc is only 2 lnb simalar to the dish 500.if you have a dish 500 with dpp (dish pro plus)lnb just use one lnb connection, set the skew angle at 90 and aim at sat 72.7 this works perfect with 211 receiver.to aim dish go to aim dish screen, select dish 300 and sat 61.5 put in zip code the cordinates you get add 5 degrees elevation and aim about 5 degrees to the right (west) and you will hit 72.7 very easy, don't forget to run check switch you will get everything

Long Island specifically would not be a problem unless your view is blocked.

Check www.dishpointer.com . . . in Long Island, NY your 1000.2 will be at about 24 degrees elevation which is really low. With Eastern Arc you'll be at about 43 degrees.

Do yourself a favor, get a 1000.2 Eastern Arc Twin LNB (sats 61.5 and 72.7) for your 1000.2. Then you'll be able to shoot over bushes.

Other than the extreme NE and SE (with the exception of trees) you will be able to receive the 129 (110 and 119 are rarely at issue) programming without issue.
There are a number of tools available to you which can help you determine the location of the satellites and assuming you have a clear view you should have no issues at all. Long Island specifically would not be a problem unless your view is blocked.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

Unless you are in a big open field 129 is hard to get here in CT. I have an old carry out that I aim at 61.5 and get enough TV for me.
I have used a dish 500 in Maine and RI and found 129 but like I saiddon'tt try it unless your on a hill

Others will know more about this than I do but when we were in PA this summer the HD locals were on 61.5. I have a Wineguard Carryout and was able to use the dip switches to program it to use the eastern arc.

I will also mention that the reason I ended up going to the eastern arc was that I couldn't get 129 because it was so low on the horizon and the trees were so tall.

Hope this helps.
