Tried to give business, but couldn't happen

I tried to buy a Tandem Fender Skirt for my trailer and it took at least 10 phone calls to 2 different Camping World's to get a simple price quote. When I finally did get a price quote from one dealership, they couldn't ship to me and they were over an hour away. so I tried the closer location and they quoted me a different, higher price for the same product.

Between all the phone calls, mis-transferred calls, extended hold time before even being spoken to, transferred to lines that no one answers and has no voice mail and being given two different quotes, I gave my business to TrekwoodRV.com instead.

It's sad that it takes that much effort on a customer's part to get any kind of service at all from the company that was more than happy to take my money for my trailer. Also, if someone says they'll call you back....it'd be nice if someone actually called you back. You get paid to do a job....DO IT!

I wasn't expecting CW to ship it to me from their store. I just figured that since they were ordering an item and having it shipped to them, they could just have it shipped to me from whoever was shipping it to them. Seemed to me just a matter of giving the shipper a diff't address, but apparently that is not the case.

Additional information: I just received a small package via UPS. Weighed maybe 2 pounds, sent from one state away, item cost $12, shipping cost was $11.83. Shipping cost is astronomical and I don't understand how Amazon does it for free unless they receive a substantial discount.

Were you overnighting it or sending at normal speed? If you were overnighting it, $20 makes sense.

I guess I'm just spoiled by Amazon on shipping prices. Either way, the post wasn't about the cost of shipping. It was about Camping World failing to provide me a simple price quote without multiple attempts to 2 locations.

RavenFan24, Yesterday I sent a small box, about the size of a watch box, and weighing less than 1 pound. Total cost via UPS was $20.51. So, I don't feel your $40 charge is excessive. There are no reasonable shipping fees.

Bird Freak, I wasn't arguing price only that a CW store is not equipped to ship.

Hence me wanting to check with the dealer. I called Keystone first and they said Trekwood or your dealer for stock parts. The $40 in shipping seemed ridiculous, so I was hoping CW would help me out as a customer and Good Sam Elite member, but alas....only a poor experience and a lack of competence followed. I'll pay the tax to not have to drive down there and not know what I'm going to end up paying, since one guy said he's only guessing at what the shipping would be...."It could be $20, it could be $100. I won't know til I order it."......Thanks for the info, guy. Real helpful.

This is why Amazon continues to grow. If you know what you want, Amazon is probably going to give you the best price. The reason I go to Camping World or another retailer is I would expect them to provide "SERVICE" to justify the higher price. And I'm okay with that. But if you can't even get good service, that retailer is going to be in trouble. Camping World staff should know the products they sell. If you don't find that to be the case, you have options.

I wasn't able to find the correct one on Amazon. The final price from Trekwood was $115.21 (including $40 for shipping). The whole reason I went to Camping World was a) because I bought my trailer there b) I thought I may be able to get a better deal without that ridiculous shipping charge for a light item. The headache was not worth the potential savings since I couldn't get a straight answer and it took so many phone calls just to get to the point of confusion from the CW side.
