Just FYI the latest Firefox is 45.1.0 Cant you just open the start menu showing a typed entry of the program and try that. You should be able to upgrade and not lose your Bookmarks. Good Luck

Can you explain how to pin it to my task bar, or even the start menu? My AT&T wireless modem went on the blink last night but after a couple of disconnects and resets it finally came back on line with the Internet. But now I don't have the little icons in the lower right corner of my screen that shows if/which Internet connection I have. I'd like to get them back if possible.

In #2 above right click on the Firefox listing and select either/both "Pin to Taskbar" and/or "Pin to Start Menu"

Not being very computer knowledgeable I decided the easiest and least complicated remedy would be to just download Firefox over again even if I was afraid of losing all my bookmarks.

Did the download/install and now everything "seems" to be back to normal. I now have two Firefox icons on the desktop and they both work, even the previous old one that was causing me the difficulties.

Would sure like to know what happened so I could maybe avoid a re-occurance in the future.

I appreciate everyone's suggestions and advice.

Sorry, I always seem to forget the pertenant information. I'm using an HP laptop running the older Vista system. Firefox usually does automatic updates but have no idea what happened here. I got an earlier not that Firefox would update the next time Firefox was closed but I was still using it Monday. Tuesday morning when I went to use the computer I had to log on again, which is unusual since I generally just Hybernate when quitting for bedtime each night and just hit the On button the next day.

If I just download a new Firefox will I lose all my Bookmarks from the old Firefox? Downloading a new Firefox is all I get whenever I do Search in the box at the Start screen and was my first thought but didn't want to lose everything from my current program.

When the icon didn't work I tried the programs down the left side of the Start screen but just keep getting the same message that it had either moved or changed and was no longer available.

Do exactly what DryFly said earlier. You are just replacing a shortcut ... not the actual FireFox program. ... and as DryFly mentioned, this is all on the assumption that there is nothing wrong with the actual program itself.

Delete old Firefox icon. Right click on your desktop. Hit new, then shortcut, then browse to the location of your Firefox directory.

You will normally find Firefox on drive C: under the directory "Program files (x86)". Find the sub directory Mozilla Firefox and in it you will find Firefox.exe. Click on that and you will have new working icon.

All this is assuming your current Firefox install is still intact.

Drag the old Firefox browser icon to the trash. Download a new Firefox browser and you should be good to go.
