Verizon data plans/hotspot

Due to my streaming youtube videos, I went over my Verizon data allowance this month to the tune of $30 (2 gigs at $15 each). I was notified of only ONE overcharge, and warned another was close. I stopped using the phone immediately, for 2 days. I chatted with them today, suggesting it might be polite of them to notify customers correctly about overage charges. They claim I was, I say I wasn't. The charges stick.

I then inquired about getting more data. The plans available to me are 'go unlimited' and 'beyond unlimited', which sound good, but the hotspot feature is either non-existent or throttled at 15g. The salesman who tried to sell me the 'go' plan neglected to mention that. He also said I could go back to my 24 gig plan. Also not true - according to the website.

So, if you're a hotspot on-your-phone user, beware.

We full time so the emergency evacuation would only get me back to my RV to take me to Livingston, TX where I don't live. No value to me.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.

The FMCA plan costs more than $50 per month. You have to join FMCA which averages $5 per month, plus you have to buy a motorhome! OK, maybe you don't HAVE to buy a motorhome. Will they let "trailer draggers" join the FMCA?

That's correct. You must join FMCA for 2 years and there is also a 2 year contract with the Verizon/FMCA plan. Yes, FMCA is open to everyone. That's when I dropped my FMCA membership. I don't need to belong to 2 Good Sam's.

We only have a membership for only one reason, the 'emergency medical evacuation program' which is part of the membership. The data plan is just a perk.

That's good to know. We're in good health, but that's still a nice perk to have along with the data plan.

I have the verizon unlimited which comes with 10gb of hotspot usage. I generally and just tether the phone to the laptop. From the laptop I can do hdmi to the tv if I want too.

I snagged a Mobley as well but since that plan is no longer available it's not much help to someone looking for service today.

FMCA is now open to all RVs. This change went into effect a few months ago.

The FMCA plan is great, if you only need 25GB of data per month.

Internet data at $2 per GB (per month) is really cheap.

The plan works great for me.

Again, as long as you only need 25G or less. My average monthly usage is closer to 90Gb so 25Gb is just an appetizer. I full time and have no other internet options so YMMV!

It just needs to be reported correctly. It is NOT an unlimited plan by any stretch of the imagination. It's a 25Gb plan and it should be sold that way. Compare that to my T-Mobile truly unlimited plan and this one pales in comparison.

FMCA is offering a 25G unlimited data plan through Verizon. Cost is $49.95 per month. You also get a Jetpack for $.01. Getting the Jetpack requires a 2 year commitment.

Since I'm using a Pepwave Max BR1 router with built in modem I didn't need the Jetpack. So I got the 24G at $49.95 without the two year commitment.

You will get throttled at 25G with this data plan, not the typical 15G like others.

Verizon 4G MIFI Benefit

This really is NOT an unlimited plan. The FMCA plan is Hard Throttled at 25Gb down to dial up speeds making the unit nearly useless for a modern internet connection. It's a good plan if you just think of it as a 25Gb plan and not unlimited.

I know of the hard throttle but only have hit it once in the last 6 months. When that happened we fell back on using the 16G data on our phones. We don't stream video, we have satellite for that, nor play games. Our usage is typical surfing, email etc.

So this plan works well for us.
