Weight of Flat Scrren TV's

:S I needed a new TV for the man cave so of course I went shopping for a bargain.

I wound up with an internet purchase of an Insignia 55" LED. It works fine.

However one thing is that I did not check on the weight of this thing before purchase. it weighs a ton (well maybe a little less).

Did I cross a weight sound barrier when I went to 55. Luckily I never intend to wall mount it.

What gives with the weight?

guess I got the answer.

I was used to carrying the 40" jobs around like they were made of much lighter weight stuff.

An LCD screen is a big piece of glass. The bigger the screen the thicker the glass and also the supporting structure has to be beefier.

Just curious, what were you expecting? Its just physics. Bigger is heavier.

The weight is due to the size of the TV and the electronics needed to project the 55 inches. It should be mount6able on your wall.

We have a 58" and it is about 70 lbs. We DID mount ours to the wall and had to get a heavy-duty mount, which is rated for up to 150 lbs.

I don't know why, but the difference between 3 or 4 19" TVs and this 58" is amazingly different.

I do know that this TV is fabulous to watch football games on. I have a recliner that is about 8' from the TV and it's almost like being there!!
