Why bother sending a coupon if they are going to refuse it?

Its been a while since I had ordered anything or been in to a CW store. This week I got a sales catalog in the mail and on the back is a coupon that states:

$25 Off any purchase, No minimum purchase, No strings attached.

Then a paragraph of small text that basicly says it cannot be applied to previous purchases or redeemed for cash and it expires March 15th.

I went to CampingWorld.com figuring I would give them another try since they wanted to pay me $25 to come back. Put a few items in my cart totaling well over $25 and went to check out. Put in the coupon code on the coupon and the web site says the coupon is not valid on any of the items in the cart. Yes, at least one item was over $25.

Why do they bother to print and mail these promotions if they are not going to honor them. Do they really think I will just say oh well, thanks for the privilege of being ripped off?

So I left the CW web site without buying anything came here to complain about it and once again resolve that CW is just not worth the trouble to try and do business with, just as I had though for the last few years.

The coupon worked fine in store a few days ago. No problem at all.

Oddly enough, this morning they emailed me thanking me for my "accessory" purchase and included a SECOND coupon offering $10 off my next purchase by 5/10/15 with no apparent minimum order required.

I have one of these coupons I am going to take in to the actual store and try to use tomorrow. We'll see how well that goes.

And you think doing a mail in rebate is resolving a coupon offered? I do not get some of the aggressive" retorts to jcthorne who is trying to allow CW to resolve this coupon and CS issue, as advertised and without additional hassle to the customer.

jcthorne, Thanks for the feedback.

Really don't get what you feel is so obvious. Whatever floats yer boat.

I don't own a boat. The obvious is that CW is a large business like any other that screws up sometimes and is always willing to try and make it right when they do. For that they deserve credit which is rarely given here instead of waaaah, waaah, waaah!

Why is it I never have a problem with CW/GS regardless of where or what I am purchasing including the use of coupons? Luck?, I think not since it doesn't seem to carry over to other endeavors. The end user? I don't know. Most of these posts seem to involve purchases via the internet. Possibly a lack of working knowledge of how to navigate the system? It is a curious phenomena that has never plagued any purchase I made.

I am so glad your black tank don't stink and your are most perfect in every way. But if you have nothing to add to the thread, keep yer trap shut.

The coupon does not work as described. Its not a user error, I am quite capable of computer usage and internet protocols. Its a CW error, not mine. There is not a CW physical store withing 50 miles of me so going to one is not gonna happen. It was a sales catalog for the online site and the coupon should work as advertised. It does not. If you are happy doing business with CW and getting ripped off, fine. Some of us are not. They can either come clean and do business in an upstanding way or go out of business.

I WANT to do business with them. I APPRECIATE that they sponsor this forum and other things in this industry. They just need to do business in a much better and more upstanding way.

Nah, I think I will continue to point out the obvious every chance I get.

What that you are the official CW cheerleader ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bucky I probably make about 3 purchases a year from CW usually small hard to find items. I buy my parts from another local RV dealer that has a first rate parts dept. I am rarely enticed by a coupon to buy something I don't need but I did use the last two to get my money back that I spent on the GS club last July. Cheerleader? No. Willing to give them a fair shake to make good on running a business this large? Yes

I actually did just that in the correspondence with the rep. They were unable to honor the original offer or offer any explanation why the offer was sent with no method of redemption.

I have had PM notes from others that indicated a few store managers were willing to manually accept the coupon in person at the store, but they do not work at the register either. Other online vendors would have resolved this immediately, not given a customer trying to return the run around. Heck, CS at WalMart is better than this and they are nothing great.

What I did not say directly and is really more the reason, I do not trust that CW would actually mail me the check as promised without significant additional follow up. Its just the way they avoid doing business and I have prior history with them doing similar. CampingWorld offers nothing I cannot get cheaper and with better service both locally and online from other retailers. I do still do business with other parts of the Affinity Group.

I heard back from Camping World. They responded that I could make a purchase and send the receipt along with the coupon to an address they provided (it was not on the coupon) and they would send me a check. They then indicated that since they were willing to do this the coupon was indeed valid.

Sorry but that is not a coupon, its a mail in rebate and given the history I have had with CW, I have little faith it would ever get paid. My time is more valuable than chasing slips of paper to get small checks in the mail because CW cannot manage to honor a simple coupon offer they print and send out.

As stated in the previous posts, I would LIKE to do business with them but as long as they continue to use these less than forthright business practices, I will have to continue not doing so.
