I am upgrading the electronics I carry with me on our annual trip to see the Moms. I am thinking about only bringing my iMac instead of a TV, dish and receiver. The CGs we are planning on staying in all have said that their WIFi is state of the art and we should have no problem watching DirecTV over the computer. Are your WiFi experiences going to support these CG statements?

Campground internet service (what they like to call WiFi) is great for checking your e-mail. Beyond that, it's a **** shoot. Some parks (the ones you pay higher nightly fee for) have pretty good service but there are few parks where streaming services will be available. If you like to watch TV then you either need to live with what's available Over-The-Air (OTA) or you need to get yourself setup with a satellite TV subscription.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

There is a Casino in SW Colorado that had the best internet connection I had ever used. Other than that they have been email checkers.

Works just fine at my CG. TV-Netflix, Internet, etc.

Ask them what is the bandwidth you can expect. If it is less than 3Mb/s download, then you may not get enough. But you camping out, right? Am not certain but I beleive most smaller CGs will give you Wifi at about 1Mb/s depending on the traffic.

Take your sat tv or your own cellular wifi. Do not believe any park wifi claims ( I think you got that message) and even if they did have a "good" connection they don't want you streaming .. it kills the connection for the rest .the only real parks I've found with good connections are the ones where you connect directly to the phone or cable company on your own line at your site and pay for it directly with the provider.

NO! People streaming video is why many CGs WiFi sucks. As a courtesy to others, bring your TV, dish and receiver... you will be happier too.

It is rare that CG wifi / internet actually allows you to check email much less watch a movie. Bring your own resources.

Agree with the above. It would take a lot of bandwidth so that everyone can enjoy decent speeds.

You ever notice they say they have WIFI, but none of them say they have "internet access".

From my experience, unless the campground is empty, the WiFi will be slow or impossible to connect to. And some campgrounds throttle or deny streaming. I would bring a backup system. You can always either hook up to the campground cable or use your dish.

Never seen a CG system that wasn't terribly overloaded due to bandwidth limitations and people streaming television.

This is why many of us use our own cellular hotspot. And get our television either from OTA or Satellite.

As long as you are the only one staying in the park and using the Internet they might be right. :W
