RV Construction References

Does anyone have a good location where us new people can find a single source for RV construction methods?

I've read a few articles and watched some videos by various RV builders. I know that in the end one has to decide for themselves what is important. I was hoping to find a trusted source that compares the pros and cons of each method.

The question is a bit like asking how different cars or houses are built. The results are too numerous to compile easily. Construction methods of every manufacturer will vary and even within a certain manufacturer various models will be constructed differently. More expensive vs entry level. Heck even different years can be done differently. As a general rule some manufacturers are claimed to have better quality build, (solid wood instead of veneer, steel vs aluminum, or wood construction, fiberglass or aluminum skin, TPO vs aluminum roof) but pretty much every aspect can be scrutinized and differences found. It's usually best to find a floor plan you like and then back into manufacturers based on your budget or preferred construction method. You may find you want Prevost quality and have a Thor budget.

I appreciate the comments. Added a link to this topic in by blog site so others can learn from it as well. Although there is a lot of information out there about RV construction, I'm having trouble finding any one really good source. Maybe I'll have to buy a book!

The best way to see differences is to go to plant tours. You'll see that some are stapled together and the other extreme is fine craftsmanship. A good base is to go to dealers and look at how the drawers are constructed and if the cabinets are wood or paper look-alike. Good luck!

Note the all welded steel unibody construction. This is the main reason I selected Rexhall - seems to me (a non-engineer) to be a better choice than wood and thin aluminum framework for the base of a motorhome.

I've found no single reference, and visiting five different manufacturers was enough to teach me that there are at least five different approaches to construction.
