5th wheel hitches

OKay... I/m looking for anyone who had or is currently using an Andersen Ultimate hitch. The Good and Bad. I just purchased a 2020 GMC 2500 ATC need to get a hitch to fit my vehicle. the only two options currently available are the Andersen Ultimate or B&W companion slider due the change in the bed size from the 2019 models my truck has the 5th wheel prep package withe OEM puck and goose neck system so i can use either configuration. Undecided.... which discretion to go. Ultimate much lighter but is it strong enough? or B&W 20K hitch but much heavier. I plan to remove the hitch when not towing to have a clean bed no rails.... that's why i have the puck system. The 5th wheel a Montana weight 13-14K... probably 16K loaded.... Thanks.

For all of you weight police out there...... I would like to make a correction.... my 5th wheel weight unload is 13,100k so i'm looking at 14-14,500 k loaded pin weight 2,400..... again i'm looking for input on which hitch to purchase.... The truck and 5th wheel not an issue . The new 5th wheel is the same weight as my bolder one and towed it with a 2007 chevy diesel over 10,000 miles... and not the first issue towing. The new truck actually capable of towing 2 k more than the old truck. But thanks for your concerns.

I really like my Andersen. I have the steel rail mount version. Light and super easy to install/remove, and really solid feeling towing. One of the things it does really well is handle terrain and allows you to hitch/unhitch when the truck isn't level.

If I went ANDERSEN it would be the rail/steel version for sure. No bed deflection and IMHO more robust.

WE Love our 18K Patriot and although it is not the slider version, I will say that it is easy to remove....because it comes off in 2 pieces, neither which is heavy. I only assume the slider version also comes apart in 2 pieces.

Good Luck.

I am looking at replacing my hitch and going with the Curt 16536 slider. Anyone have any experience with this hitch. It is a 20k hitch and I only need the 16k. But for a $100 more I can get the 20k in case I later upgrade truck and trailer.

If you are "going with" the CURT why ask about it???

FYI if you care they are Made In China.

The 2020 puck specifications are different than 2019 GM trucks. Their short bed versions have beds which are longer than previous short beds. Couple this with the hitch now being 3-4 inches behind the rear axle and maybe GM is looking at the marketplace and have designed their short bed truck for fifth wheel use without a slider. B&W has part numbers for the 2020 trucks which use the pucks. There are many hitches that would probably work if you used the gooseneck ball. I would be concerned regarding the 4" of offset of the Andersen added to the 4" rear offset of the truck ball. I would research it pretty hard before I jumped.

Curt seems to be the choice for heavy trailers on haulers websites although they use the big non slider.
Use more than one rv website for more input. That way you don't get stuck with whats just popular at that time.

I never worry what non users say about any product brand I'm interested in especially on a rv website where endless arguments about truck brands/hitch brands/trailer brands/diesel vs gas/Ford vs Ram vs GM trucks blab blah blather/etc go on for pages.

Was a pic posted awhile back of a Curt hitch that didn't look too good after a incident if I recall right.

Simply no comparison B&W is hands down the BEST non air ride hitch on the market.

Bunch of people that can't pick up a few pounds these days is really sad. Disabled are excluded from my comment.

Negatives to the Andersen, can't lock the RV to the hitch or how about the bed deflection.

I have seen/read good/bad about the Anderson hitch. Personally, I'd go w/ the B&W. Reason I say that is we had a Reese 16k and for the most part is a good hitch at the time we used it on a 5er w/ a 1800 pin, max wt of 13,500. When we got the new 5er (pin of 3700 and max wt of 16K), decided to upgrade hitch and went with B&W 18k Patriot. Compared to the Reese, the B&W is MASSIVE along w/ rails. IMO, while the B&W is a much more beefier hitch, I'll take any day over a lighter one.

We have a 2006 F250 V10 pulling a 10k 5er with the Andersen hitch. I like it for it's flexibility (ability to adjust easily) and portability (don't need a winch to remove it). Glad I chose it, never had an issue other than occasionally needing a hammer to remove one of the pins.

We traded up to an F350 6.7L diesel dually and the ride is so much better, it pulls wonderfully and I'm not as worried about being able to get the trailer up some of our mountains around home.

:h The F250/F350 SRW and DRW has the same 6.7 engine and tranny so it will pull the same trailer up the mountain easier than the heavier F350 drw truck.

The problem is the F250 small 6200 rawr. Now if the truck has the camper pack or heavy service pack then it has the same suspension as the F350 srw truck.

I don't have a Anderson but they are very popular with those that use them.
I'm looking at the same style PullRite SuperLite hitch. I pull GN trailers also. clicky link
