I used to use my Amazon Visa card for Amazon purchases, but never do anymore. Now I use my Amazon Store Card. You don't actually receive a card, but it's like a credit card for Amazon purchases only. It's not a rebate, you just never pay the 5%. You get 5% right off the monthly bill, much better than the 3% rebate on the Amazon Visa.

Another nice things is, the free shipping with Prime can be shared as long as the item is shipped to the primary account owners address. Just put in a separate cc, and use it when checking out.

My daughter uses my Prime on a regular basis. Has her cc on file and ships to her address. Has never been an issue.

We actually have Prime-student, costs 49.00 annually. We use son's .edu e-mail address for sign up as he is a current college student But still receive all Amazon correspondence through my e-mail. A great deal with all the same perks as regular prime.

I’ve never paid for shipping from Amazon, since my orders are always over the threshold for free shipping, currently $35. We both use Nook from B&N for e-reader. We have no interest in streaming video from Amazon.

My Amazon orders were always shipped in 1 or 2 days until May of this year. I’ve placed 7 orders since then and the average time to ship has been over 5 days, the minimum 4 days. Recently, I’ve placed orders with other vendors on the same day I placed an Amazon order. I received the items from the other vendors before Amazon even shipped my order placed the same day.

I can only conclude that Amazon is deliberately degrading shipping service for me in an attempt to coerce me into subscribing to Amazon Prime. I am not kindly disposed to pay them $99 per year in hopes of once more getting the prompt service I was previously accustomed to. I’m not interested in negotiating the ransom to get them to stop holding my orders hostage.

I sent them an email earlier today. We’ll see what they answer. I will take my business elsewhere if they continue to treat me so shabbily about shipping my stuff, even if it means a little less convenience or a slightly higher price. (I often find better prices elsewhere, anyway.)

Everything that is sold on Amazon is not always shipped from Amazon. So it may depend on the shipper. And then again you may be right. And everything sold on Amazon does not fall under Prime shipping. So people should know that before they sign up. To make it worthwhile, you need to order a good bit every year and/or take advantage of the other little perks like some of the streaming movies/tv shows they have. They recently started allowing you to download the movie/show to your device and you can watch it later. That's good.

This is correct. Some things are sold by Amazon themselves, some merchants stock their merchandise at Amazon and the orders are very quickly "fulfilled by Amazon". Some merchants ship their own orders. Amazon only controls the efficiency of the first two categories. Only Amazon direct or Amazon FBA products are eligible for Prime.

No argument from me.

With Amazon, it is usually easy enough to tell whether it is coming directly from Amazon, or whether they are passing it along to another vendor. If it qualifies for “free shipping on orders over $35,” you can be sure if it is shipped by Amazon. Some items are sold by a different vendor, but “fulfilled by Amazon,” and Amazon ships those as well. All the orders of which I complain were shipped by Amazon. Actually, on one of those orders I included a used book from a third-party bookseller. Amazon passed the order through promptly and I had that book in hand before Amazon got around to putting the rest of my order in the mail.

The other services included with Prime are of no value to us. Besides having Nook e-readers, we live in a rural area where internet speed is marginal for streaming video. I can’t recall that I have ever paid for shipping from Amazon, except in a couple of instances when I ordered last-minutes gifts and paid to have them shipped expedited, so “free shipping” is not much of an enticement.

By not paying $99 per year, I can cover a lot of shipping or small price differences from other vendors who will ship my stuff without waiting for the moon to change phases. Besides, it is not often too hard to find as good or better price somewhere else.

We live in a remote area and buy a lot from Amazon, but I also buy a lot from Ebay and other on-line sources. The main thing Amazon offers so far as I’m concerned is the convenience of dealing with one vendor for a wide variety of items, but if that is going to come at the cost of waiting an extra week I may soon choose to shop elsewhere.

Thanks for posting, I signed up Friday before heading out to the campground.

I have been a customer of Amazon for years and was considering trying the Prime video this fall so it worked great.

I have seen steady price increases with Amazon over the last couple years. They are no longer the low price leader but still have a lot going for them. Walmart has declared war on Amazon and often have better online prices. With Walmart ship-to-store there is no shipping cost. I never simply assume that Amazon prices will be the best without price comparison.

I look forward to enjoying the video and music streaming together with one free Kindle book each month.

No the purpose of the OP was you could get it $69 a month, that's $5.75 @ month for two day orders. Plus you get Prime videos and deals on books. Seems pretty reasonable to me. Heck a Netflx streaming acount is around $8 a month and you don't get any better videos that I can tell. And they don't sell goodies and ship for free. I guess a free for all would be nice. 😉

For FYI. they had automatically renewed our Prime account a week ago at the $99/rate. I emailed them inquiring about it and the $67 charge. They are refunding us $32.

I heard that by several folks on a different, wish I tried but I only paid $69 last January. So I'm not to sad about it. Don't care what the nay Sayers say about Amazon I like the heck out of it, the video is GREAT, and thank the OP again for the post.

They have some good deals, but wait until you have to deal with the off-shore customer service reps. You will be banging your head against the wall due to the cultural disconnect, lack of knowledge etc, differences in language and lack of overall concepts of a business.

Not at all true, in my experience.

Remember, not every item sold ON Amazon, is sold BY Amazon.

I have had to deal with Amazon customer service twice in four years of Prime membership, and both times I spoke to an American CSR who understood my question/problem and was able to easily solve it.

In fact, their return policy for Prime items is so awesome, we have bought multiple sizes of the same product, tried them on at home, and returned the wrong size, FOR FREE, and been credited once the FREE RETURN is scanned at the UPS store, not when Amazon actually receives the returned item.

That's customer service.

Don't get me started on the same-day delivery. I have ordered things at 10 A.M. on a SUNDAY and had them delivered by 5 P.M. Some items are even now being offered with 2-hour delivery in my area.

Awesome.

Feel free to keep shopping at B & M and I'll continue to be a loyal Amazon customer. Choices are what make this country great. :C

As an Amazon merchant, what you say is 100% correct. They are very strict in their vetting process and anything "fulfilled by Amazon" is handled by them for customer service issues. No overseas customer service reps.
Amazon Prime has been a great thing for our AMERICAN small business. Thanks to all who use the service.
