Another insurance issue

Ok, So I got another quote for insurance today for my vehicles. It started at Esurance but they won't insure my wife's Transit Connect because too many of them are commercial vehicles....hers is not. So they sent me to an affiliate company who looked at a few other companies they write insurance for. They called me today and to insure my three vehicles, they wanted over $9,000.00 for the year. My current insurance is less than 1/3 of that. Oh, the company that wanted the $9000 was Progressive.

Campinfan, insurance companies are no more than bookies. They profile you by where you live, how old you are, your credit rating, the brand of vehicle you drive and their history with other people with simular statistics. If by chance, someone with a simular profile had a large claim, you get to pay for it. It doesn't have to have been you. Another insurance company may have no claims from a person with a simular profile. Their quote would be much lower. It is all done with statistics and each company collects their own data.

Mich800, if you are paying $2,000 a year in the Pontiac area, I should get away a little cheaper....no I am not bashing your area, I just live near a small town in Washtenaw County with very little crime. I think Oakland is much more urban(more traffic, more crashes, etc) than here.

I don't disagree. It was more to illustrate how crazy high your quote was.

I do have a long driving history with no claims and a good credit rating. But...my son turns 16 next year so we shall see.

Let me clear things up. First of all, my record is spotless. No claims in 18 years ( and none were ever my fault). Been driving for 36 years. No tickets since I was in High School. My dollar a day rate if for my trailer. My buddy who is an insurance agent told me to shop around every year or two to see if I can save any money. I called it an issue because what else do I call it. I guess I could have titled it Holy Cow, what an expensive insurance quote. An issue doesn't necessarily mean a bad thing. My vehicle insurance is through Safeco, but I just want to make sure that the yearly increases are reasonable. My wife's van is a passenger van with seats.

I guess the quote was "progressively higher" than what I am paying now. I just thought some of you would get a kick out of hearing how outrageous the price was. Even the agent was shocked.

Sorry didn't mean to imply you were a bad driver, but $9,000 for three vehicles is steep by my book, and would imply something other than a spotless record.
The $3,000 you are paying now seems inline for new vehicles, I hope you are sticking with your current insurer.

Another insurance issue? I don't understand what the issue is. You obviously got a high quote from a company that doesn't want to insure you. It happens every day. What is your issue?

Campinfan, I guess I lost track of why you are shopping insurance.
I thought you had a company you loved and cost about a buck a day?

That seems even high for a commercial vehicle!!

Do you have a terrible driving record, or lots of claims for minor items?
Is it a simple box van, or is it outfitted with seats.

Yikes. I have my three vehicles insured through Progressive. I think my premium is a little over $2k annually.
