It has been raining non-stop for 20 hours now and I wanted to check the capacity of a 2009 Ford F250 I was looking at buying. I found some numbers online but none mention tongue capacity. Just wondering if I will need a new hitch if I trade in my Chevy for it. The Ford also has the V-10 and my Chevy is an 04' with 6.0.
You'll only need a new receiver if your tongue wt. and GTW is more than 1250/12,500 lbs.
I think you'll love the V10. I do... A year later after upgrading from an F150, I have to say I totally love it, esp. for towing. HUGE improvement over the 1/2 ton in all areas. I installed HD Bilsteins which has been a good upgrade. The OEM ones were totally shot.
The only thing I don't like is the 4WD mostly because it is a bit higher off the ground but it also reduces the payload capacity from the max. available in the F250 lineup. Haven't used 4WD yet and don't think I ever will but it just came with the truck when we bought it used.
If it's in good condition, I'd get it. It seems to me that the V10 versions aren't all that easy to find. I'd suggest looking closely at the front end for excessive play.
