Auto Leveling System and Weight Distribution Hitch

I have a 2017 Ram 2500 with auto leveling and I tow a 30' toy hauler with a weight distribution hitch. Anyone have experience with using these systems together? I have seen conflicting information on how to set up/ use them. One site said to hook up the trailer without the WD and after the truck levels itself, then add the WD and adjust as necessary. Another said to disable the system all together.

Fair question. I can't find anything in the manual about this. I may have missed it, but I was in hopes that someone has some experience with it.

Starts on page 553, talks about WDH and air suspension.

My Tahoe has the passive (Nivomat) auto leveling shocks. I had to re-adjust it a couple of times to get it right. I set it up initially, then drove for about 5 miles, then did it again- after the shocks pumped up there wasn't enough weight being transferred to the steer axle. Then, after really getting the trailer set up the way we camp in it, the load shifted around even more so I adjusted it a third time.

Can't really contribute much about the newer vehicles / trucks, but my Land Rover manual SPECIFICALLY says not to use a WDH at all. I had to show the people at the dealer when I bought it. I'm sure the trucks are different, just an observation I thought I'd add. Never know what you'll find in those manuals. ๐Ÿ™‚

Is the auto leveling front and rear? If it's only on the rear, I'd use the same method I've used before in bringing the front at least half way back to it's unloaded height. If it is front and rear, adjust the hitch to bring the front back to at least half of it's unloaded height and then activate auto leveling. That's just what I was do. Others will surely disagree.

I believe manufacturers of these systems tell you to use the WDH to get the rig situated corectly and then start the vehicle and let the air susp. do its thing.
