Awning will not roll back up

We replaced the awning fabric but can’t get the awning to roll back up. It is a manual domestic awning. We retensioned the springs but not sure if we did everything right. Any suggestions

Been there, the awning material comes over the top, not under.
Wife broke a finger nail but we finally wound enough.

How do you turn the tension spring on the right and left sides- clockwise or counterclockwise for both? Where is the lock - on the up or down position.
Greatly appreciate the assistance

I guess it would either be the tension spring is either the wrong way or not enough tension on it. Or the roll up lever is not connected or not functioning correctly.
