When out of Canada for more than a week you are allowed to bring back one bottle of wine/liquor or 1 case of beer. We have been vacationing for several weeks and have a half case of beer and a few part bottles of wine/spirits. Anyone know the rules regarding returning with part bottles. Am I still allowed to buy one bottle each for the wife and I? Or do they require me to to drink/dispose of the part bottles?

Why not just have a nice party on your site before returning. Problem solved and neibours will be happy too.

if you are near my area I can put you in the pasture with electric, just leave the offending problematic liquor behind 🙂 🙂 🙂

The amount that you want to cross is not an issue. We bring our limit in wine and the occasional spirits back each week after 48-hours throughout the summer months.

I believe they are trying to stop people from bringing back a truck/RV load of alcohol! If you tell them what you have, which isn't much, you will be fine.

You are allowed to take 26 oz or 1.14L of liquor. It's interesting that you will find only 1L and 1.75L bottles in Canadian duty frees because you are only allowed 1L PP into the US but you will find 1.14L bottles in US duty frees because that is the limit PP in Canada.

Just a minor correction...one LITER for each person is exempt from duties, and they'll usually allow the 1.5s. You can bring back as much as you like, but after the duty free part, you pay tax on what the extra would have cost you, had you bought it in Canada. Not what you might have paid for it a discount store in the US.

My experience has always been on the plus side. Say two people? and you have an extra bottle? I can't imagine any problems. Two people and a case? Good luck with that.

I cross a lot. If your taking more then a case or bottle per person just tell them. I was never asked to pull over and pay duty. I drink Steam Whistle and is only available in CA. I bring 3 or 4 cases back at a time. If you do its like .40 a case. These days they are looking for security problems.

Two 750 ml bottles of wine or approximately 24 cans or bottles (355 ml each) of beer or ale per legal age person after a 48 hour or more stay. Half empty bottles I believe can be allowed but it will be calculated as part of the limit in other words one bottle of wine 750ml plus 375ml of opened bottle therefore you cannot bring another bottle as you will be over your limit of 750 x2.
