Bug guts ...revisited

Chose today to massage around the front end cap and
free it from bug cremains...

learned (and relearned) a few new take home lessons...

1) It is an RV law that the most stubborn to remove, hardest
to reach , and generally caked on bug guts will be at the
highest, most central, most difficult to reach RV spot.

2)Obsessive compulsive disorder and bug gut removal duty
should remain mutually exclusive... hey, you missed one.

3)Ladders, water bucket loads, and BMI's over 35 (not svelte)
are poor companions.

4)Desert living and failure to promptly remove bug guts leads
to petrified hieroglyphs coloring the front end cap.

5)When beautiful little Buttercup butterflies are herding chose
an alternate route.

6)Bees usually impact so the business end remains ready for duty.

I reckon there are more take home lessons...but I'll save those
for the next RV massage lesson.

BTW, multiple cocktail du jours for bug removal... what worked today....

Dawn dishwashing liquid, Thetford Bug removal (for the most cantankerous exoskeletons), and generous elbow grease.

Someone on the forum mentioned using the front jacks to have the coach kneel. Lowered the front jacks down and was able to reach the top of the front cap from the ladder. I have no desire to scrub from the roof.

Now, why didn't I think of that?! Guess I'll have to do that this week. Since I washed and waxed it, I've been out several times to admire my work, but what do I see each time? Those dang bugs way at the top of the front cap. This will eliminate that!

I also used something like "bar Keeps friend". Bon Ami, but the camper does require waxing or rejex afterwards. We returned from a month and a half long trip to Colorado and the bugs were dried hard. The Bon Ami was the only thing we had that actually removed all the guts.

Just did ours today. The dryer sheets work great. Don't even use new ones, grab a couple from the trash can in the laundry room, hose down the front cap, then up the ladder and start wiping and as soon as you tyhink you got em all then you see a couple more. Afterwards I rewax the cap.

Bought a Shurhold buffer for waxing . Was definitely a good investment , does a great job and is easy to handle. If only I had some scafolding.

Has anybody else used Pledge? We use Pledge the furnature polish and get a wax on bug off effect very easily. They come off very well and then when their cousins hit the the front they tend not to stick so bad. I can tell you that I pledge there is an easier way!

I had also better say that we have a fiberglass unit as opposed to an aluminum one. Not sure how it would work on aluminum.

This little scrubber from Camping World has been my best friend for years. Put any type of cleaner on the pad surface and bugs come right off. The white pad surface kinda looks like a rough scouring pad that would scratch the finish, but it's actually very soft and won't scratch fiberglass, paint, etc. Great time saver.

Oh boy is my shoulder sore today but it's clean except for the very, very top. After cleaning and conditioning the rubber roof, I just couldn't climb back up on top. I used RV Bug and Tar Cutter. It say's it's thick and stays where you spray it. Spray on, let sit a minute, then wipe off. Well, not exactly. It is thick but still drops a little. All the bugs did come off but with some I had to use a little elbow grease. I followed it all up by using Gel Gloss Wash and Wax. I love that stuff, just wash and rinse, no drying required and it dries to a beautiful finish.

Found an item called "Love Bugs". Its a scrubber pad that is a bit softer than the green pot scrubbers. Bought a couple and they work very well and are suppose to be easier on the finish. Not much will help with the baked on bug insides. Also bought a Ryobi 7" buffer at Home Depot (like an oversized palm sander). That and a very fine rubbing compound makde short work of removing all kinds of stains and such off the gelcoat. Wax on and off is no problem either with that Ryobi magic device.

I did the front cap today too! Found out just how bad bug guts stain. I used Dawn dish detergent and a microfibre cloth as they had been on there for awhile.

Hubby comes up and asks me what I'm using, reply to him Dawn detergent. He's not happy as it takes the wax off. I personally like the clean cap and my reply to him was that I will wax it tomorrow. Now he's a happy camper and I will be the one with the sore arm.:(

Moist baby wipes and some elbow grease does it for me. Still have to climb on top to reach those in the dead center though.
