Camper T boned while enRoute on camping trip

Back in July I was on my way to a weekend trip with my daughters. I was in my k2500 suburban and towing my popup camper. A 17 year old with learners permit ran a stop sign and drove right into the pup at front corner and a frame. Immediate total for that disaster, truck however different story. Given the rareness and frames on k2500 subs and k2500 avalanches they have an bend in frame and non reparable driver side rear shock mount. The outrigger broke off the frame from truck totaling the k2500 sub.

If you have a pickup that minor side force can break that shock mount and get replaced. Out of luck k2500 subs and Avalanches.

This guy was so smart in some ways and such a complete idiot in others. Talented mechanic and an artist when he put his mind to working with his hands.

I think he honestly just thought you paid a flat rate for insurance and they paid whatever your vehicle was worth.

Sadly, when it came to paying his taxes, choosing wives, making good financial choices and taking care of himself he wasn’t so sharp. Paid the price for all of it.

That is so true! I have a 1984 Chevy K10 Silverado 350 short wide 4X4 all original with 90,0000 miles. Have it insured for 14K as a collector insurance only $164 per year.

Yep.it is very important to talk with your insurance company if your vehicle is worth more than a typical vehicle of that age.

Local guy bought a 67 Cougar back in the 90s. It was driveable, so he just added it to his insurance policy. He did one of the most amazing frame-off restorations I have ever seen, much less by a guy in his garage. Car was custom, but still looked like one did back when they were on the street. Crager SS wheels, a black metal flake paint job that looked like it was 6” deep and custom black leather interior. 351C under the hood with performance parts everywhere. Drunk guy T-boned him at an intersection. Insurance paid something like $600. He had $3000 in the seats alone!

Had that happen with a Ford F350 diesel pickup. Had a lady run a stopsign in a Honda and hit my drivers side front wheel and totaled the truck. Her car was totaled as well and she went to the hospital. I had my wife pick me up and my truck went to the scrapyard. She knocked the front axle out, got the engine with the 4wd components, bent the frame and bent the body mounts. Insurance wrote it off and I got a new truck and someone got a lot of marketable parts.

I'll keep your post in mind as my wife owns a Suburban 2500 LTZ.
