Anyone know why a 2011 Caravan can be towed only if all 4 wheels are off the ground ? That's what the owners manual says. I read that after buying a Dolly

Looked up on our U-Haul computer 2011 Grand Caravan.

To heavy for the tow dolly.

Only allowed on 7.0K and 7.5K auto transports.

Suggest you check the weight capacity of your tow dolly.

Does your owners manual differentiate between all wheel drive and front wheel drive?

AWD would need all 4 off ground.

When we wanted to tow our Kia Sedona van on a dolly, Kia gave the same song and dance - Flat bed tow only, because dolly towing could put too much stress on parking paw in the transmission.

Talked to Kia technician, he advised pretty much same thing already said here - Leave the tranny in neutral when towing on a dolly and don't worry about it.

Definitely means you gotta make absolutely sure the straps are on good and tight so it won't get loose. I also beefed up the safety chains holding it on the dolly to make absolutely sure it wasn't going to get loose.

But, surely we can work around that possible problem.

Not that I plan to do this but when I hear no or can't I like to know why. After reading the above link I understand the concern that leaving the tranny in park could damage the parking paw so leave the tranny in neutral. I'd use the foot parking brake to hold it on the dolly until the tires are strapped down and then the most important part... release the parking brake and confirm it's in neutral. Leaving the door open might be a way to remember to release the brake.
Before unstrapping you might want to put it in park or set the parking brake as I've been told it's hard to catch one when it's rolling down a hill.:B
