Credit Cards For Fuel Discounts

All of us are concerned with current high fuel prices. I have been trying to research using credit cards for either cash back or discounts at the pump to help save some money on fuel. What I'm finding is very confusing and doesn't really give me any definitive answers. So I thought I would go directly to the source. Those that are currently using cards for that very reason. So what are you all using to get the most discounts for your fuel purchases. I am not interested in getting any kind of rewards points. I'm specifically looking for discounts at the pump or cash back for gas purchases. What say you? Chuck

I give up. I guess I'm done here. This is a perfect example why I don't post here anymore. I should have known better. Chuck

Thanks for some of the suggestions but I am not looking for grocery stores to shop at for gas discounts. I ask about credit cards, so PLEASE keep the posts to that topic. That is what drives me crazy trying to get information on this forum. Chuck

So you paid 20-30% more for groceries to get 9% off on a gallon of gas? Have you been hanging with my wife?

We use the TSD program for the motorhome. It's diesel only and you have to fuel at the truck islands. Last purchase was at a Petro - 63 gals, pump price was $341.27 and our cost was $305.11.

Have you checked some of the apps for your phone from the oil companys. For example Exxon/Mobil gives points that give rebates at the pumps when using the app to pay at the pump. Upside is an app that gives cash rebates up to 25 cents a gallon and also a % at restaurants. Can be deposited in your bank account or varios gift cards.

You're in Florida, so I'll bet you shop Publix, at least occasionally.

When Publix has gas card weekends, they offer $50 gas cards for $40 with a minimum $50 grocery purchase. That's a 20% savings --- with gas at $5.00 per gallon, that equates to about $1.00 per gallon discount.

We buy BOGO's (which also count towards your $50 minimum purchase), and it ends up being a win-win. You've got to be a savvy shopper to get deals at Publix, because yes, on many items they are the higher-priced alternative to other stores.

You can actually purchase one card for each $50 spent, so if you tally up $100, you can buy two cards, and so on.

In our area the 3 main gas cards they sell are Shell, Mobil, and RaceTrac.

Yep. Wife gets those every chance she can. But we can't shop at Publix while driving around the country. Chuck

Can't shop at Publix but you sure can save up the cards and use them anywhere. That's what we do.

The local grocery store chain called Hy-Vee teamed up with the local convenience store called Casey's and they have a way to get some cents off per gallon if you purchase certain groceries at Hy-Vee. You have to be careful though !! If you are buying a grocery that is more expensive and getting only, say, 2 cents off on their 20 gallon maximum you might not be saving any money. But, by being careful on what I buy, and only purchasing the cents off on stuff I really want, I've been able to save quite a bit.

As to the PenFed card, I have already applied for and been approved for (took 5 minutes) a Wells Fargo visa that offers the same cash back and same terms as the PenFed card. So they would be redundant. Chuck

X3 on the PenFed Visa cash rewards card and the 5% rebate. Combined with my GS Swipe and Save card that saves me 5 cents a gallon at Pilot/Flying J stations, it all adds up to about 24 cents a gallon off at the $5/gallon gas price in our current area.

For gas I use Pentagon Federal Credit Union VISA card which gives me 5% cashback on fuel purchases, comes off the monthly statement (I don't think this card is available any longer). For diesel I use a fuel card from TSD Logistics. This provides discounts at the pump in the truck fueling lanes. Participating stations can change with time. I've found best discount at T/A stations. Funds must be drawn from checking or savings account. If I can't find a discount station I use my PFCU Visa.

x2 on the pen fed. No limit on annual purchases, no limits on gallons per fillup, credit at the end of the month, works for gas or diesel (some cards don't work on diesel purchases). Couple that with Kroger/Safeway/Albertson fuel points. We often do our shopping when they offer double fuel points for certain days and will buy gift cards that give 4X fuel point on cards good at places we normally shop anyway.

Downside of safeway/albertsons is the limt is 25 gallons, while Kroger allows 35 gallons on the purchase.
