Mine is parked in my workshop … NO travel for me with fuel prices like these at over 6$ per gallon even though I can BABY IT to get almost 16mpg.

GOT TO do a major LPG gas upgrade anyways ….

This one got me wondering what gas really did cost in 1971 (sorry, I couldn't find similar data for diesel....though no doubt someone will):
Inflation adjusted price of gasoline

Anyway, the national average was $0.36 per gallon. If that was adjusted for inflation (1971 to April 2022) it would be $2.57 today.....interestingly, about what it was before it started it's rapid rise.

I also found it interesting that the long term inflation adjusted average since 1918 was $3.20/gallon

I have noticed that, in the past couple weeks, it seems that the spread between the price of Diesel and Gas is decreeing here (Bend, Oregon). I wonder if anyone else is seeing similar?

These are the "Good Old Days"

Three years from now, when diesel is $15 a gallon, we'll be on here saying...I remember back when diesel was just $6 a gallon.

I have a Hemi, buy I'm sure it's the same for diesel.
When the bank teller counted out $100.00 bills, I repeat.... one stop for fuel, 2nd stop for fuel, 3rd stops for fuel, 4th stop.....

I'm far less concerned with how the price of diesel fuel will affect my travel than I am with how it will affect our supply chains.

Remember the old saying "if you've got it . . . a truck brought it" and the vast majority of those trucks operate on diesel fuel.

To answer the OP's question...Usually, we take the Allegro on longer trips and the Isata on shorter trips. Because of the higher price of diesel over gas, we will take the Isata on all trips this summer.

The price of gas is about a dollar a gallon cheaper than diesel and the Isata gets 15mpg compared to the Tiffin at 9mpg, so we will be taking the small gasser. We definitely won't be staying home all summer!

To the original question, how has the price of diesel affected your travel? The fuel bill is twice as much.

bgum The question was about diesel prices and how it affects travel plans not gasoline. Gasoline prices are going up too, which will hurt just as much. I think you better downsize again. To a electric vehicle and a tent. Some of us like to traveling in class A's and fifth wheels.

Gas prices have had nothing but good affects as we have more open spots.

Open spots ? …. So you don’t have a fully self contained RV ?

Gas prices have taken a MAJOR HIT too.

We do have a fully self contained rv. We have not run on diesel since we sold our 5th. After owning a 35 foot class A and a 35 foot 5th wheel we woke up to the fact that bigger is not better when it comes to RVS. We can get into any rv park except class A only. We get a little more than 15 mpg when towing, and can maneuver easily. We have what we want in a RV: a clean bed, a clean bathroom, air-conditioned and heated space, hot shower, refrigerator, and stove/microwave, entertainment center including TV, and it's paid for.
If you have anything better please let us know so we can check it out.

I expect diesel to keep going up until summer is over then it might drop a bit. By next year you will be happy to $6 per gallon.
I just bought a new truck, so I still plan on towing the 5th wheel.
