How much effect will higher gas prices have on the camping/travel trailer business? At what point will camping slow down? $4/gal? $4.50/gal? +

fuel prices have never impacted our decisions on what we do. Do they have an impact on the economy? Absolutely, those w/o extra disposable income get hit hard.

While we can moan about fuel prices, there are many many countries with much much higher fuel prices.

A $1/gallon increase in fuel prices adds $125/1,000 miles at 8 MPG. Is that enough to stop you from RV'ing? Not me...

It didn't stop us the last time gas was $4 or more per gallon and it wouldn't stop us now, but, health has. That is much worse than a few bucks more for gas!!!

Does that mean is should rush to sell my RV?
Should I park it and not use it.

I'm new here, 65 and on a low fixed income. I agree with Cummins12V98. What I have seen on this thread is lots of people that are out of touch, and also lots of people that have great retirement and investments. Those,as in the last, will not be affected much. Upgrading Motor homes and big rv's is probably logical, with the low interest rates, but others, buying and upgrading, buying a second or vacation home, new vehicles, boats and such,I feel are in for a rude awakening. Heck I never see people here talking about heating, or grocery prices? ALL heating, oil,ng,lp are up 30 to 38%, electricity soon to follow. NG and LP may double this winter, according to the industry people. I see people trading in their 2 year old vehicles, claiming they got 2k more than they paid for it,with no consideration to how much the new one they got was marked up. My bet, from life experience, is by end of next year, possibly sooner, we will see "fire sales" of rv's vehicles, toys like boats and utvs, etc, and vacation homes. And many will lose these things, yet still have payments,on the loss. Possibly a flip in the House may save them. That is my observations.

unless of course the supply is affected by other-than-market forces.

this year is unusual for us. no snowbirding this year (wife's surgery) and we never travel when school is not in session. we'll see what next fall brings but has prices have never stopped us from RVing.

For the most part veteran/experienced campers don't let gas prices impact their camping.
If you are a dedicated camper like myself you cut back in other areas if necessary, but the camping show goes on.
The only way to get value out of any RV regardless of its cost is to USE it.!
Owning an RV and not using it is a bigger loss of $$$ than paying higher gas prices.

Average gas price in Alberta is $6.20/gal, hadn't seen it slow camping down this summer.

Lots of California gas stations are currently charging $4.599 per gallon for regular. No slow down here.

If an average trip required 100 gallons, we are currently around $100 more for that trip. In the grand scheme of things, not a high percentage really and if anything, it might just persuade folks to stay a little longer.
