Gaudy colored and striped RV's

Why is it so popular to design trailers and motor homes with huge, bright stripes and decals. I call it gaudy and over the top. I don't know how many people would want just a solid color RV but why not more subtle. I equate it to the old days of cars which were covered in chrome, stripes and fins and many of us started to "customize" to get a less flashy look, then the European look became popular with little or no chrome, fewer ornaments, black bumpers and a lean mean look. I think we could use some of that with RV's ??

Really...who's to say how much is too much? Everyone is different with various levels of "like". So am I to tell you, or anyone, that your "taste" in anything is bad. Please tell me that this is just to get everyone fired up!!

I don't think anyone was telling anybody else their taste was bad. They were just suggesting they don't care for some of the current trends. No body was making or taking it personally.

This is the perfect subject to discuss here. Maybe somebody in the industry will read it and get a hint.

Okay, I stand corrected. But when poster use the words "gaudy" and "no account for taste" and post pictures of rigs with custom paint jobs, it just sound a little personal. I may just need to grow a bit thicker skin. Cheers!! 😄

Sadly I doubt it. I can get over the outside stripes and colors but I will never get over the 70's looking material they use on the furniture.

On my first MH I searched and searched for decent looking interiors on a new unit and gave up and decided on a used MH just to get a nice looking material on the couch and dinette.

Here's a full body paint MH that was parked next to me at a dog show. Yellow and Black??
Wonder how many buyers he will have for this when it comes time to sell?

My swirls are almost 12 years old. And, I'm wishing for the big jackpot so I can buy that spanking new set of swirls,.........on a Newell. This kinda gives me a purpose in my life.

I like the monocolor trailers that airstream produces. That proves a single color will work.

Let's let Henry Ford himself answer that one by way of quoting his remark about the Model T, published in his autobiography "My Life and Work":

Sometimes, if you are buying used, you just buy what is on the lot. I could have done without the paint job and decals. They just came with the unit we found at a good price in good condition.

Exactly.
That's just it. RV's have fads too.
First the only color they had was beige. TT's had metal siding type walls.

Now they are all white and gel coat. Beige MH's and metal sided TT's seem to look old to us.

MH's used to have just a few swipes of stripes . Now they have complete body paint. Even all black! And lately I have seen TT's with full body paint too just like the MH's.

All these wild stripes and full body paints will go by the way side also and they probably will bring back the beige RV's :B

It's generation driven. Remember the kids won't want to buy something that looked like what their parents had.....so they 'will' change them but once again. What is old will become new to them.

When I first saw a motorhome with full paint, painted graphics and clear coats,.....I said to myself that someday I will own one, gotta have it. By the time I saved enough money to write a check for one (the mostest I could afford), the "look at me" part of it did not have THAT big of an impact. When I parked in the shadow of a fresh 45 ft Newell, everybody wanted to look at the Newell (didn't blame them).
However, I felt that in order to justify spending the money on a new motorhome, one must use it for about 20 years.
The paint still looks almost new, EXCEPT from the gutter line up. The paint that they used (up in that area) was obviously substandard (the clear coat burned off in a few years).
I'm going to attempt repainting that area myself.
I still like the rest of the (main) paint job, and the graphics (they still look good):

Why does that picture look so much like my Executive and your sig says Dutch Star? Beautiful, by the way.

The industry already knows what the majority of people want. But, there's no problem because the rest can simply order plain-vanilla white, if that's what they really want.

I special-ordered mine, with some special mods and lots of options. And YES, the floorplan was a VERY important item, as was a bedroom slide big enough to accomodate the king bed. The multi-color full paint part was standard, and I like it.
