Help with minor plumbing leak at fresh water connection

I've got a leak in my trailer where the connection is made between the trailer's plumbing system and the city water connection. The inside compression fitting is leaking. I've obviously tried retightening it but it still leaks. The connection is marked as "hand tighten only" so I've resisted the urged to take a some channel locks to it and really torque the heck out of it. Being all plastic I'm sure I'd damage it anyway.

I know nothing about plumbing. The plastic fitting that is leaking has a small gasket inside it that's kind dome-shaped. Is this a replaceable part? Or do I need to cut off the fitting and replace it somehow with a new one. Links to whatever parts I may need are appreciated.

What's important to me is to know what the other end looks like and how long the tube is. The end in your pic is a typical 1/2" lavatory connection. You will need to replace the whole tube and not use Teflon tape or pipe dope.

The O ring may also be a filter (dome shaped). An O ring will stop the leak but you should probably take the old one with you and if you can, get the same type. You may have to go to an RV dealer to get the filter type??? Either one is pretty cheap.

It is hard to say what you are really talking about here, but if it is the city water connection, you can pry that little domed screen with gasket out and replace it. Super cheap part available at any hardware store.

If the entire fitting is leaking, you can just cut it off and install a new one with a new stainless steel pex crimp ring. Again, a super easy repair.

I would try some Teflon tape on the threads, a couple of wraps should do it. You can buy a roll in any hardware store. I would also tighten it a LITTLE tighter than finger tight.

You could also try pipe joint sealant on the threads.

I am going to try some teflon tape when we go out this weekend. My concern is that it's not leaking through the threads but through the collar.

In that case the tape won't help. Replace the O ring.

Edit: When I first looked at the photo I thought I saw tapered threads, now I'm not so sure. I guess I would try a hose O ring as SWD suggested first.

Mainly I wanted to avoid cutting the existing fitting off if there was a replaceable part in it. I'm sure if I do cut it off, I can find something to replace it with at Lowes. It's tempting to just shove the whole connection outside where it can leak all it wants ๐Ÿ˜›

Check on line for pex fittings and you may see what you need OR you could take the old one off and put on a Shark bite fitting. You can find pex and shark bite fittings at Lowes and Home Depot etc.

I wish I had a picture. I snapped one with my phone the last time I was out there (camper is on a seasonal site at Lake Raystown) but didn't review it at the time and later realized it was too blurry to be useful.

The connection that is leaking looks the same as the one in the upper left hand corner of this picture http://rvtipoftheday.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/PEXplumbing-adaptors.jpg

Its probably the garden hose o ring. You can try replacing that....otherwise you should get a new check valve, brass preferably and then you should be good to go.
