Anyone know if the Honda EU3000is generator charges its own battery while running.

Well then it is broken because it certainly should.

My Honda 3000is has been in use for 8 years and I do not even know where the battery is , you just turn the key and it starts . Probably the most dependable piece of equipment that I have ever owned .

This is a question I would not think of asking. It would be pretty silly if it did NOT do that. Pretty much ALL engines with an electric start should charge their own battery while running.

As for battery longevity, if AGM is available in that size it should last twice as long or more because it tolerates neglect better.

It would be easy to find out using a multimeter.

The internal Honda Start Battery should read around 12.6-7VDC when fully charged and the Honda is not running...

Then start the Honda and measure the battery terminals again while the Honda is running. You should see a jump in DC Voltages up to around 13.6VDC or higher across the battery terminals when the Honda is running.

Lawn Mower motor chargers with start batteries do not last long as a general rule. I have to replace mine about every two years. I suspect the reason is the DC Charging voltage is not regulated and does not follow the required DC Charging voltages to properly charge the battery.

Intermittent charging of the batteries not obtaining the 90%-100% charge state will eventually ruin the battery...
