I have a 2013 Honda CRV that is capable of being towed 4 wheels down.
How many of you have a towed and what your thoughts are.

We never flat towed anything behind out TC/Truck until a couple of years ago when we drove from Alabama to Silverton, Co for some offroad jeeping. It worked out great, but I had underestimated the impact of not being able to back up with the toad. Previously we had also hauled the jeep on a car hauler trailer. Anyway, flat towing worked out so well that we plan on do a lot more of that, even when will just be using the jeep on developed roads.

I've been towing an 08 Wrangler for about 8 years. With my 920 Lance, I use an approximate 24" extension.

Wharfcat, here is a thread I started back on truck camper forum regarding setting up a hitch for towing behind a TC. It is different than a motorhome due to the need for a hitch extension in most cases. I don't think you will get much TC specific help here. Feel free to bump it with any new questions. Hopefully it won't migrate as well.

Hope this helps.

I have always towed my boat and when at the campsite if I was staying more than a couple of days I'd unload the camper. I bought the Honda years ago with the idea that I could flat tow it. I've never gone long distances with the camper, just my usual fishing spots so I don't have any experience with what it's like to go cross country. The pros and cons of a toad with a truck camper. It's a several thousand dollar commitment to set the Honda up to tow.

When I had my TC going to town or sightseeing was such a chore. The DW didn’t like it either. No one had a TC pulling a toad back then. I would now.

Whole point of having TC is leaving it at campground and drive the truck for sightseeing.

We just started. My impressions so far are very favorable. We have certainly gone places that we couldn't in years past. Exploring the dirt roads in Death Valley this year was very cool. Also it has allowed us to stay longer in our boondocking camps. We also use it to scout out suitability of roads before trying to get the TC in.

Day trips, sightseeing, running out for a dinner or groceries is so much easier than dropping the camper or bringing the whole RV along.

The truck pulls the jeep easily and aside from not being able to back up and limiting parking to parking lots the only real negative is a small drop in fuel economy. To offset that most of our need to stop and shop doesn't include the camper anymore. The jeep also acts as a trailer carrying all my tools that used be carried by the truck moving weight of the rear axle of the truck.

Wish we would have done this sooner. The Jeep has been a blast.
