Identifying My Baseplate

Greetings,

I was in the market for a Toad and ended up purchasing a 2007 Chevy Colorado which I was planning to have a baseplate mounted onto in the future. After looking at the vehicle and deciding to purchase it, I noticed, much to my surprise it had a baseplate setup already in plce. The question I have as I search for the rest of the equipment I need, is what plate is it? It appears to be square stock with an opening about 1.25", each tube has a pin hole and tabs with holes i imagine to hook up break away cable or something, each side is independently mounted to the frame with no bridgework between the two plates. One person told me they didn't think it was blue ox,because their design is round tubes. Another gentleman told me there are conversion pieces to make it work with any bar. My question at hand is what bar do I shop for?

If the draw bars that connect base plate to tow bar hardware, go into square tubing with holes in the side for hitch pins like a trailer hitch receiver uses, sure sounds like Roadmaster. In Roadmaster, the tow bar comes with a cross bar. The base plate comes with two draw bars tha connect to the cross bar. Then cross bar connects to tow bar.

If you're missing the draw bars, you can probably get them through Roadmaster, one of their outlets, or maybe even a swap group like Hitch Trader. Most tow bars are available with connecting ends that allow use with different brands of base plates.

You described the Roadmaster base plate to a T. Yes there are conversion kits, but you need to get with a dealer to figure out what all you need.

I would guess from your very vague description that you have a set of Roadmaster baseplates. I would guess that they are model #165-2. As Dutch said, without pictures it's really hard to identify. You can Google Roadmaster and look it up in their online catalog or Google Roadmaster 165-2 and probably get several hits with pictures either way. I said 165-2 because I have a set that came off a Colorado but an earlier model. jd is spot on and is basically what I said.

There are several adapters and which one you buy depends on what tow bar you buy.
