Manufactures & Subsidiaries.

I don't know if this is the right spot if not please do move my question. We are in the research phase of buying and have been trying to wade through the different manufactures. It seems to us like there are basically only a handful of floor plans being made by an awful lot of manufactures. So are they all owned or subsidiaries of just a couple of companies?

It's a little more complex then that

Northwoods
Nash
Arctic Fox
Fox Mountain
Desert Fox
plus
Snow River
Wolf Creek

There there is the sister company (same owners, different factory)

Outdoors RV
Blackrock
Creekside
Timber Ridge
Wind River
BlackStone
Glacier Peak
2008 F350SD V10 with an 2012 Arctic Fox 29-5E
When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

There are a fair number of low-volume and direct-to-consumer independent manufacturers. The other list is of the major brands that you're more likely to find at a local dealership.

Smaller independent manufacturers off the top of my head:

TTs:

Scamp
Casita
EggCamper
BigFoot
Oliver
Taylor Coach

Class B:

Leisure Travel Van
PleasureWay (might find these at a dealership)
RoadTrek (might find these at a dealership)
Sportmobile

Class C:

Born Free
Coach House
LazyDaze
Phoenix Cruiser
ProVan

I'm sure there are others (Class A?)... Many of these are known for making expensive, higher quality, products in low volume. You're not likely to find most of these at a local dealership.

Hi,

I've never understood why Murphy beds don't get more use in RV's. It would seem a great way to have more living space in the day time.

'Cause "Murphy" would be there 24/7 !!..:W

I updated the list thanks for the additional information. For new buyers we are finding this a little confusing.

If the big companies buy the little ones, why not integrate and cut down on the number of names and floorplans when so many are identical to each other? I applaud all of you that are seasoned and managed to make your way through the maze to find a good rv! We didn't expect it to be so hard to find one to buy.

There are realistic reasons for the majority of existing RV floorplans. But, it's easy to draw your dream floorplan and post it here so that we can tell you why it won't work...:B
We special-ordered our floorplan, and it's the best there is,....for us. It's a keeper alright.

And there are more: Northwood Rv's - Arctic Fox, Nash, and some other models. These came to mind because my sisters own their trailors:-)

While not all inclusive, this is the list that we've come up with that shows who is together and the names of their lines (this is for fifth wheel only). Also from what we've read all but Lifestyles use Lippert in some portion (if not the whole) of their construction process. This has given us a better idea of where to look and where not to look (our personal preference).

The Reflection line by Grand Design RV is interesting...

I looked over the brochure and literature on the Grand Design line was not more impressed with it than any other similarly priced trailer. They put on a lot of glitz and bling.

Granted, some folks can live with this floor plan and it's ideal for a solo traveler. It definitely would not work for us. All occupants would have to go to bed at the same time and wake nearly at the same time as you couldn't really make noise when someone is trying to sleep a few feet from the kitchen.
