Motor Home Warranty

Basically looking at Class C or B motor homes to purchase. Would appreciate knowing about manufacturer warranties:

*What is the rule of thumb for the length (years) of a warranty?

**For a new unit. Does the warranty length (years) depend upon purchase price and/or quality of the motor home?

***With a used unit do the warranties normally carry over to the new owner or is it like some automobiles where the warranty is reduced?

****Does the coach manufacturer warranty everything in the coach for a certain period of time, or do they only warranty things like engines, transmissions, and drivetrains, with the balance of appliances, etc., warrantied from purchase date by individual manufacturers?

*****If you have problems, under the warranty, do you take the motor home into the coach manufacturer's repair facility no matter what system is having the problem?

I know that this is a subjective question, as each type of motor home has it's own specific warranty terms. However, just looking for a general over all idea. Possibly your own experience with warranties and repair work would be helpful. :?

As Tyler said, there are multiple warranties.

The house part is typically one year, though some makers have been inching up to somewhat longer warranties. Specific items may have lengthier warranties (i.e. the roof warranted against leaks for x years if proper maintenance has been done...which isn't much of a warranty, since nearly all leaks are due to improper or incomplete maintenance or to physical damage that would not be covered such as from tree limbs).

Chassis warranties are typically 3 years or 36,000 miles for full coverage (at least for Ford and Chevy), which certain items having longer longer coverage. Appliance warranties vary quite a bit in length.

I think generally speaking most or all the warranties are non-transferable. If buying a used unit from a dealer, they may give you a short (30 or 90 day) warranty. There are also companies that offer extended warranties, which are really better described as insurance plans, though IMHO usually they are a waste of money. It stands to reason that they would not offer optional warranties if they did not, on average, cost the buyer more than the issuer will pay out.

You are going to have different warranties.
The chassis and engine are covered by the manufacturer, Ford, Freightliner or whoever.
The house part is covered by the builder, Jayco, Arctic Fox or whoever'
The appliances are covered by their respective manufacturer.
