Passenger pickup at McCarren Airport with class A motorhome

Has anyone out there ever picked up passengers arriving at the McCarren Airport in Las Vegas
in their motorhome? If so, where do you park at the airport or can you drive through to a pickup spot?
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.:E

When I pick up a passenger at Greater Cincinnati Airport, I love to see the looks on passengers faces when an announcer welcomes them to Florence, Kentucky! The thought must race through their minds that they aren't even in the right state. I always tell folks I'm picking up about it to avoid panic.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

Was the price reasonable? Did you just drive up or did you make arrangements in advance? If yes, who did you contact?
Thanks so much!

Just drive up and swipe your credit card. They're unmanned gates.

It was $15/day. For me, it was more expensive than offsite storage, but that was for 2 weeks.

Thanks for your great responses. I found out that McCarran airport does have an oversized rig parking lot with free shuttle service to and from arrival and departure gates. I just hope I don't mess up and take a wrong turn going there. I will do a Google map satellite view search as one of you suggested to ensure I don't screw things up. ๐Ÿ™‚
I have two family groups to pick up arriving 3 hours apart so parking and letting them shuttle to my rig seems the best solution.

It's very easy to find. I parked my truck + fifth wheel (13' 4" tall) there for 2 weeks. In fact, just got back to Vegas this past Monday night from that.

It's a very wide open parking lot with a TON of space and spots open. The shuttle is pretty quick and easy to find. You're looking for the signs that say "Economy/Remote" lot.

The only catch was that the bus driver couldn't get through the gate to get us close to our truck/camper. With us being the Beverly Hillbillies, we had a **** ton of bags and 2 kids to schlep across the parking lot.

Thank you for posting this. It could be very useful for folks in the future. Also, please be sure to post an update and tell us about the experience once you've completed it.

How about the official info?McCarran Terminal Clearance Information
Excellent!

While vertical clearance is very important, so are some other factors, including things like turning radius's and local LAWS.

Having the Feds come out and tear down your RV because you have violated a "protected" area with an improper vehicle is embarrassing.......but not as much as getting your big buss stuck in a situation that you don't have the skills to get out of.

CONTACT THE SPECIFIC AIRPORT FOR OFFICIAL INFORMATION.
If you do not, you might be VERY sorry.

That's the third time; I'm done.

From personal experience...if you can, do a PRE run in a car, so you know where to go. I did it, and the first time was a bit of a mess. I ended up sitting in the middle of the traffic, staring at the 'overhead bar'...with my tow, I couldn't back up. I was in a bit of a pickle for a bit, until I was able to scope out the right lane.

DO NOT get into the bus only or transit lanes, the cops will give you a ticket in Las Vegas. My wife saw several cars getting tickets for stopping in the wrong lanes.

My suggestion is also to go to the car rental site. You will want to check it out in advance (think really early in the morning - before 8 am? when it is just light enough to see around. Then go back when they arrive at the rental area. There is a "Tiny" parking area for private cars across from where the rental car counters are located, and where the bus drops off passengers. As I recall, it is about 40 parking places for small cars, nothing for a RV. By you can drive through the lane, stop for a minute, pick them up, and keep going.

They will just need to get their baggage, then take the shuttle bus to the rental counter. From bagage pickup, you cross the street to the shuttle pick up area. Then they drive you about 2 miles south to the rental car area. I would suggest checking it all out on Google.maps.com and then find the airport, rental car area, and then click to 'earth'. This will give you a overhead picture of the parking area, ect.

My wife made it to the hotel much faster than the rest of us. We went to the rental car area, then stood in line for 60 minutes, rented a car, went downstairs to pick one out (cars had the keys in them, you just get into the correct size and color of your pick). Then waited 45 more minutes to get out of the parking garage! What a PITA. . . She took a $12 per person shuttle bus with a wheelchair lift. It goes up the strip and stops at around 10 places, then our hotel on the south end of the strip. She boarded very close to the free shuttle to the rental car area.

Anyway I would avoid taking the RV to the airport. The car rental area will be OK. Just make sure they are there, or on the bus to there before you start into the parking area of the rental car, as you will not be allowed to park there with a class A.

Good luck,

Fred.

I just walked through it on Google Street Maps and noted that there is a 13'3" clearance on terminal 1. As long as you are under that and follow the bus lane, it looks like it would work. But don't trust me on this.

I didn't check terminal 3.

I had a similar question about a year ago with regards to Phoenix, Sky Harbor. The comments were all over the board but two comments were great, 1) use Google Maps and street view to do a virtual drive through and pay close attention to the clearance heights as you step through it and 2) call the airport and ask them.

I did both and determined that it would be no problem but I had to exit out the same way I came in. That's exactly what I did and it worked out fine.

The busses some people mentioned have proscribed routes and they know where not to go.

As the last few posts here clearly indicate, various airports ARE different.

Some may even have height restrictions that a large MH won't clear.

You MUST get information specific to the airport you will be going to.
