Ram tow ratings

I'm looking to purchase a Grand Design Solitude 384GK. The GVWR is 16,000 lbs. UVW 13,400 with the hitch weight of 3,150. My truck is a 2011 3500 Mega Cab dually, 4x4 ,3.73 gears, with the 6.7. Doing some homework of the tow rating of my truck am I seeing right of 2,600 payload and 12,950 Max. trailer? Seems a bit light for a 1 ton dually. At those numbers the Solitude 384GK will be to big for my truck.

Well you can do like many of us 2500 owners do and go by GRAWR, 9,350# should carry the load just fine. That would be a choice you need to make for your self.

You are a victim of pre 2013 Ram ratings! :S

That 12,950# 5er rating is only 950# more than my 2001 5.9! :h

Rear axles need to be at lest 8,000#, 2,900# payload is a joke for a dually.

I really don't think the Mega cab is much heaver than a crew cab.

huh? My 2013, not a Mega, but a crew cab, long bed 4X4 dually has a GVWR of 14,000#, a RAWR of 9759#, and a GCWR of 37,500#...

The ratings for Ram didn't go up till 2013...My 2010 Ram, another dually in config. as my 13...same gearing 4.10, GVWR was 12,300#, with only a GVWR of 12,300#

BUT, payload capacity in the 2010 was around 4.5K, and mine is 5600#

ON EDIT, my bad..misread your post....you were talking about pre 13 MY Ram's

I was in the same boat as you....2010 3500, 68rfe,373's..but mine was a crew cab..did some research and bought a 2014 3500 crew cab with the HO 6.7,Aisen tranny, and 410's. Now when I upgrade my 5er I have more than enough truck. But I traded my old 3500 and my wife's 1500 in on the new 3500 and a new 1500 for her and it only cost me 80 bucks a month more than just the old 3500,,her 1500 was paid off,,but I did do alot of shopping and dealing to come out where I ended up I think luck was on my side as well....you can find one it just takes some work to get it done.

Oh and by the way the new one pulls so much harder than the old one...I feel you can't go wrong with the drive train that I found. If you love ram's you'll love that combo.

So that truck has a 9350 lb RAWR and a 10,500 lb GVWR? What the... :?

I don't see how that truck isn't fully capable of handling that FW, ratings be damned.

As stated many places in these forums go get the truck weighed at a cat scale.. Take your door tag axle weights and subtract that from the scale weights.. That will tell you what you can tow exactly..

Make sure tank is full and all gear and people are in the truck when weighed...

Any other advice you get here would be just guessing... All trucks are different due to options and such...
