What the public and the media perceive as "rising prices" is in reality the falling value of a dollar. It is by no means just oil that is going up and up.

But instead of recognizing the real culprit -- the Fed's massive creation of money -- we will see the usual ranting and demagoguery about oil company profits, speculators, etc.

Hey I even read last year the WH was planning to drive the US Dollar 20% lower to help CAT and other exporters and slow imports by making them more expensive. Natually that included oil products.

Thanks for that reminder slowlane/Dick A.

I was looking at the signs today and diesel is $3.45 a gallon and around $3.10 a gallon for 87 gas. Terrible.

We may get an used electric car after they get down to $10K in price and can be expected to last another 100K miles with energy and tire cost.

We were all hoping it would not happen, but it is here. How many are going to opt for a hybrid or electric vehicle now??? Wow, I will be able to 56 mile on $35.00 worth of gas. My other car is a moped, 115 MPG. Irover

Yup, the big fuel bite is happening. Gasoline has "leaped" to $3.09.9 from $2.99.9 up here. Luckily the motor home is filled with "cheaper" gas from last October. Not looking forward to the increased fuel cost when warmer weather arrives.

Hi mowermech,

Since the thread is closed here are some cold weather results.

I do rv in cold weather. My last three trips were in below freezing temperatures. Each trip was in excess of 600 miles.

27.80 liters per 100K; Mpg 10.14 Imperial and 8.45 US
29.37 liters per 100K; MPG 9.60 Imperial and 8 US
28.43 liters per 100K; MPG 9.92 Imperial and 8.27 US

Average for 2010 based on 22337 kilometers (13960 miles)

27.14 liters per 100K; MPG 10.39 Imperial and 8.66 US

Average since purchased (Feb 14, 2009) 44340 K (27712 Miles)

27.36 liters per 100K; MPG 10.31 Imperial and 8.59 US

Class C 28'5" with a Ford V-10 (2004) 31,000 miles on the clock.

It does appear that it uses a bit more fuel in cold weather.
Regards, Don
My ride is a 28 foot Class C, 256 watts solar, 556 amp-hours of Telcom jars, 3000 watt Magnum hybrid inverter, Sola Basic Autoformer, Microair Easy Start.

$5/gallon :E Well, that does it. I might as well sell the 5er and all my vehicles and start walking.

Seriously, if fuel does raise up to $5/gallon average, that'll add about $25 to our average trip fuel costs. Since I don't really plan on cutting back on camping due to fuel costs, I'll cut back on spending elsewhere. That's my 2 cents on the subject.

I have decided there are forces at play that I have no control over and will like the rest just have to pay the piper what he demands for push water. 70% of the fuel I buy has to do with life style and not survival. Pump prices are like the weather for the most part in my view but is more of a man made issue.

The only ways to affect current market forces is to increase supply or reduce demand. The world wide recession did the latter for most of the industrialized world. Many countries are now coming out of the recession (German, France, Russia, ETC.), but we unfortunately don't seem to be. We can affect the world supply pretty drastically if you look at the small difference between what we do supply and what we do use (world wide). We seemed bent on keeping our fossil fuels in the ground and making their usage very expensive via regulations. This has a large negative affect on the pricing of everything made with or transported by energy. When I see the pundits on TV saying how these cold spells are caused by global warming, I want to throw a rock at it.

cekkk, I cannot argue with your assessment of the past and I do concur we would be heading down a different road had different choices and directions been taken. Unfortunately, we are now subject to the market forces that currently exist.

Briefly. Agreed, Dick, the weakness of our currency, therefore, the declining strength of our entire country, has much to do with the current $90 price of the juice available. But had the government allowed the market to work its will over the previous 40 years we would have had a much different situation. Had we pursued nuclear, mined and used our own gas differently, punched holes in our own oil reserves, rather than pretending that subsidized wind and solar were answers, not only would the energy supply/supplier situation be markedly different, our entire economy would have benefited and been in a better position to deal with the events of this decade. Thanks for the discussion. Look forward to a reply, then I'm going dark on the thread.
